Thai Revenue issued me a TIN several years ago upon my request at the ground floor in their Jomtien Office. All I needed to say was that I wanted to file for refund of my bank interest withholding.

Only one annoyance: they made me go to Immigration for a residence cert.

FYI, this year I filed online early February, uploaded the requested documents a month later, got my check in the mail another month later. The check needed to be deposited at any major bank at which you have an account. No longer forced to go to Krung Thai Bank.

Yes got one many years ago around 2012. Chiang Mai was a simple matter of a few forms then certificate was sent. Which I used for a few years to claim back taxes withheld on savings & they always sent a check no probs

You can either ask the local revenue office for a tax ID like @mahjongguy stated, or if you have the pink ID card and not already have a tax ID, your ID number from the pink crd is your tax ID number.

More and more banks are asking for these things now, my bank in Norway pesters me annually about FATCA/CRS (look it up), and my Thai banks asks for my Norwegian tax ID/social security number.

So like it or not, soon they will know everything about you, and exchange that information across international borders.

No TIN then no money transfers!

I have had a TIN since I worked here 18 years ago.  I've never been required by a Thai bank to provide that number.

Correct but the international banks need them to comply.

No TIN no transfers.

You know, each of these banks makes up their own set of rules which they use to comply with whatever greater set of underlying laws exist.

They all do it differently in their 'compliance' departments. Some 'require' it and others don't, depends on the circumstances.

The problem here is likely with your foreign bank from where you're sending the money.

Not all banks are the same, if you're in Thailand of course then it might not be so easy to open a new back 'back home' and if they're asking for a tax id it means you told them you moved to Thailand which could create other issues.

If they haven't halted domestic transfers in your country then I suggest moving the money inside your country to a more friendly bank or transfer service and proceeding from there.

It was the same result for me in Nov '21.  I took passport, bank book, Thai DL and residence certificate (COR) to the TRD office in Nong Hoi, CM.  The COR I had was an extra one I asked for when I got one to open a bank account.  All done in 20 minutes.

I have bank accounts at 4 Thai banks.  None of them do any tax withholding from interest now.

Can you provide the source of your information?

Good question.

It is my international bank that is requesting this TIN, nothing to do with the local authorities here in Thailand.

So my source, this confirms what my bank is telling me: https://www.expattaxthailand.com/tax-identification-number-thailand/

Now yesterday I was lucky that my transfer has now finally been sent, but first off I don't like being put into this compromising position.

Sure there might well be many banks that are not following up with this mandated request today, but in the event that it was was suddenly being enforced, then how would one be placed without a TIN.

Has anyone with solely a retirement visa, successfully been issued with a Thai Taxation Identification Number ( TIN).
If so how did you do this please?

What's the problem, what's the issue, banks around the world are now being enforced to comply these new regulations.
No TIN then no money transfers!

I have had no problem making money-transfers into Thailand, over the past twenty-years including 2024 & 2025, without a TIN.  So I would disagree with your final line.

have been pressed by my bank in Jersey, C.I. for a Thai T.I.N., over the past several years, they previously accepted my prior-statements that I didn't need one, or need to make a Thai tax-return annually, due to always making transfers out of prior-year income.  Obviously that situation has now changed.

I therefore visited my local tax-office in San-Sai, Chiang-Mai a couple of months ago, and requested a T.I.N. to give to my overseas-bank, they did manage to issue me with one (and I'm on retirement-extensions to a non-O visa, like yourself) which I've now sent to my bank.  The TRD accepted my explanation, that I needed a T.I.N. to give to my overseas-bank, so they could in-future pass CRS-information to the TRD every year.

My transfers-in for 2024 being just-below the B500k point, above which I'd be liable to pay a small-amount of tax here, I still have not felt the need to make a tax-return to the TRD  ...  until the situation changes again.  But it has all gone rather-quiet, thankfully.

So the answer to your first-question is 'Yes'.  Hope this helps !

I have had requisites for a Thai TIN number from my offshore bank.

It's twice now, but no real threats.

I got a TIN number ready if it's needed. but not yet

I need an offshore account to run my property business.

But all things are still good.

Transfers are always ok,  when needed. :coffee1:

I was told not need not Thai and no income from Thailand.

I was told the same in Khon Kaen, after he had insulted my wife by asking if she could read or write.  She has a BA and an MA.
