Information gathering...Health Insurance for an extended stay.....

Featured Replies

Hi all

Info gathering for an extended stay, say 1-2 years.  Have looked at a few websites, etc.  The scenario is I am in my mid 60s, looking for something that covers catastrophes, such as being hit by something, or some acute episode where I cant return to my own country.  Outpatient is relatively affordable in Thailand so ok to cover that.  Is anyone else in the same boat, if so, how much are folk paying per month?  Whilst fully comprehensive is nice, the ones I have checked out seem very pricey compared to what I pay here in Australia (medicare and private insurance)....your input and insights appreciated...cheers.

They are all very pricey and if one has family here, they can not get me on their insurance plan and several times and yes we do look after our families!!!

You do not specify what kind of policies you have looked at. I am not sure if World Nomads still offer but you used to be able to get long stay/backpacker (but decent limits) for from memory up to 18 months to start.

There used to be a couple of other similar options. I had one years ago with World Wide Insurance before moving to Nomads but that was many years ago.

In-patient costs in Thailand have rocketed in the last couple of years and major international health insurers have unfortunately been jacking their prices as a result.
