Yes, but it keeps some who would be tempted to just use the cash for other things to use it for food. Not everyone has someone who will trade cash for food stamps. Making it easier to use it for drugs by just giving them cash has them not thinking otherwise. People hooked on drugs will do it anyway. There's also those who buy cigarettes instead of food for their kids, as addictions are hard to keep at bay. I understand if you give money to legitimate buyers they'll use it for food but humans are easily tempted.

Why do you assume the poor are stupid and do not care about their children?

There are places everywhere that will take SNAP for alcohol and cigarettes. Sure, instead of getting a case, they only get a twelve-pack, but they do not care. You seem a bit naive.

Again. treating parents like children makes little sense to me. Just give them the money.

Where did I say that? Some well off people don't care about their children. It's all individual. And no places accept Snap for cigarettes and alcohol legally. It's against the law Of course there are some stores that will break the law and trade them, but that happens with anything that can be traded, although illegally. Naive? Hardly.. .........https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligible-food-items.

I never said it was legal to buy cigarettes and alcohol with SNAP, I said there were stores everywhere where you could.

If the law works so well, just make it illegal to spend the SNAP money on anything but food.

You know you can used SNAP to buy pop and chips and whatnot, yes?

The link states what it can buy. There are surely stores where people do things illegally, but guessing they're everywhere doesn't work. There are a lot of stores in everywhere and I've never seen it happen once in all the countless times I've been in stores in most states in the US. How would you make it illegal to spend cash someone gave you on things besides food? That's a bit naive thinking. Better to use a card than SNAP cash, if they would make such a thing. There are people who give their cards, with the pin,  to others and they give them cash, but it's still more reliable than using cash or giving people cash they can misuse easily.

Yeah, everywhere was an overstatement. They probably do not have them in Beverly Hills or on Martha's Vinyard.

I wouldn't comment on this topic if I didn't have experience in it. I've seen for many years what people buy using the benefits, and a  lot is junk food, but that can't be changed. WIC only allows certain things, a lot for children and infants, with eggs, milk, cereals, peanut butter, cheese, tuna and fruit and veggies. And there are many on Martha's Vineyard needing help. It's not all rich people there.

Even before tariffs the beef export was sn issue.

Let cows be cows.

Some countries will never buy it, we lucky in Thailand to have a choice of quality beef from different countries.

Anyway he on right track.

All meat i would say. There's a reason the EU doesn't buy US chicken e.g.

nice job subjugating your ego and admitting at least one point on your opposing team is positive.

maybe the only guy on your team to do that ever on AN.

I'll join in on this. I do also note the hypocrisy, however, in attacking Michelle Obama's trying to improve school lunchs being attacked as government ver reach and now? Bottom line for me is both the goal and the method being used to reach for the goal ... that may be applied to over issues needing government to address in the interests of the citizens.

Well done, you've broken the seal, that was the hard bit.

Next you'll realize deporting violent gangbanging scumbags that entered illegally through the Biden/Mayorkas open border is good. After that there's no stopping.

The immigration issue goes back decades and is the result of BOTH parties kicking the can down the road. Observe Constitutionally guaranteed "due process" and, if found guilty, I have no problem with deporting back to their home country, in fact, I encourage. Again, the catch is the method being used as unconstitutional unilaterally dictated by trump. No, I do not recognize that he can void the RIGHT of Habeas Corpus for any PERSON subject to US law.

The immigration problems stem primarily from the Hart-Celler Act back in the '60.

I'm in favor of any good policies propagated by the worse presidential administration in American history.

OMG that is hilarious!

Coming off the previous president who was biggest zombie to ever occupy the White House with his word salad Vice what ever.

Especially considering this is our current President of the United States second term & looking back at his first term compared to not only the previous zombie but also the "Yes We Can" oops maybe not previous democrat president that held so much promise & delivered so much nothing.

Yeah thanks for the blinkered laugh but Dems in general on this forum need medication to help them regain reality in their lives.

WIth low unemployment, why is there so much spending on food stamps?

The federal budget needs to be cut.

Well Mike, you might want to recognize that in the USA currently, working at one of those available jobs will not equal the cost of food, clothing, shelter and medical care. Where is the system encouraging the working middle class? In retirement, my family of three falls within the qualification for food stamps. Fortunately, recognizing I cannot afford to be retired in my own country, I joined millions of other Americans "outsourced" in retirement to lower cost countries.

...and yet,the new dietary trend, the Sugar-diet" is sweeping America, and apparently endorsed by top "doctors" in the industry....2-steps forward, 1-step backwards.

So, do you think flooding the country will illegal aliens drives wages up?

What impact do you think millions of immigrants has on housing costs and social services?

Ironic, isn't it? Watch the reaction to the Medicad, education cuts as they affect the poorer states most (yep, like my home state Kentucky, they vote Republican).

Was this observed when Biden illegally threw open the border and welcomed millions of unchecked people in? No it was not. Did you bleat about no "due process" then? No you did not. So why should we fret about this due process now?

Medicaid and education are not being cut, what is that claim based on?

I already stated, I support addressing immigration as a recognized issue. Just carry out policy in line with the legal constructs which the courts are stating as not being followed.

So, you agree that Biden flooding the with illegal aliens put downward pressure on wages?

And do you also agree that Biden flooding the country with illegal aliens puts upward pressure on housing costs and social services?

Many courts, but not the Supreme Court.

Just saw another judge that was harboring illegals had to resign.

Not true. Give states block grants, eliminating waste and fraud, and adding work requirements are not cuts.

Do you think that able bodied men that are not working and not looking for work should receive Medicaid?

50% of births in California are on Medicaid

40% of people living in California are on Medicaid

27% of people living in California were not born in the United States.

Except the feds have the money that we already paid for that. It is administered by the states with federal funding, so give the money to the states or back to me. Don't give it to Thiel and Musk, they are not feeding anyone.
