I better not tell you what I thought when I saw a 320 pound hairy  guy with a mullet and moustache and a sleeveless with a slim young thai girl in tow.

Absolutely disgusting. Aesthetically speaking I mean.

How do you think that people view you when you are with yours?

Do you think they imagine that it's a genuine relationship or a transactional one? I would say that everyone would assume the latter.

With maybe some few exceptions, the more discrepancy in age and looks, the more transactional a relationship is.

There are plenty of "normal" looking farang-thai couples out there, where the age difference isn't huge and the woman is not 1000 times better looking than the man.

Exactly, a 50+ year old out with his 22 year old 11.

When I was young and naive and first visited Thailand I saw an old man on a Harley Davidson with a young Thai girl riding pillion. I thought, how nice of grandpa to pick his granddaughter up from school.

The regular sight of old gits walking round holding hands with fit looking  young women is very strange at first. My initial reaction was - this place is sick. But your eyes and brain soon adjust and you don't notice anymore.

I know there are many normal couples that are dedicated to each other. I was referring specifically to the poster I quoted.

View Talay 2B is where I live. How on earth were you "detained" and by whom?

I have wrote about it countless times last year

That pool area is locked ,if you have no card which I didn't your also locked in .

The staff at that coffee shop were rude to me as well, lucky I ended up escaping over that side fence

The "prison officers " in white uniform practically locked me up in my " cell " near those glass doors

I'm happy I escaped over that side fence near the cafe with a poster from here helping me

If you aren't social, you can be lonely in any city. Expecting others to be your friend without any effort is asking too much. The Welsh are very social and going to a pub, a church, a social club will help a lot. Staying home to watch TV is depressing. Staying in Pattaya, not understanding the language and expecting prostitutes to be your friend is not a life.

I have lived at VT 2B for ten years and while the locked pool door is an irritant, I have never been treated this way. Most of the staff know that I am a resident here. Your circumstances are strange, indeed.

You may be using the judicious approach

Are you perhaps using the judicious approach?

Yeah

just go to meet ups until you get three or four regular people you know, and then you can cut way back on going to meet ups.

In the states, this would be impossible. Nor would there be the culture of chatting at a bar. If you are 70, suck beat Road is your friend.

The only ones getting false hope are the broke ones.  If they have money, the lonely (and the ugly) can have a harem around them if they want.

I still remember Donnie from when I first moved to Asia (not Thailand).  Poor guy was uglier than a kick in the nuts.  But he paraded around the expat bars for over a year with a hooker on each arm.  Then, the Joint Venture fell apart and he got sent home.

I think the saddest day of his life was when he found out that the US Embassy wouldn't give visas to hookers.

"If you aren't social, you can be lonely in any city"

True, but it doesn't apply to everyone who is not 'social'. I don't looking for social interaction, but I'm a very friendly person if someone approaches me.  But I much prefer my own company and I'm definitely not lonely.
