Politics Eastern Border Forces Armoured Infantry Inspected for Readiness in Sa Kaeo

The Commander of the Burapha Task Force, Major General Benjaphon Dechatiwong Na Ayudhya, has led a formal inspection of the combat readiness of an armoured infantry unit stationed near the Thai-Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo province. The inspection took place in Ban Nong Sang, Nong Sang Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District, where the Special Task Force Battalion (Infantry Battalion 12, 2nd Regiment, Queen’s Guard) is stationed. The review focused particularly on troop discipline, morale and the readiness of armoured personnel carriers and support equipment. As part of standard operating procedures, this readiness assessment ensures that the unit can swiftly and efficiently carry out any mission assigned by higher command. Major General Benjaphon, who also commands the 2nd Infantry Division, Queen’s Guard, emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism among all personnel. He urged troops to uphold a strong image and reputation, not only in operational effectiveness but also in their interaction with civilians in the area. He further encouraged officers and NCOs to take care of their subordinates and foster leadership at every level, aiming to build morale and ensure that all units remain combat-ready at all times. This show of military preparedness is part of ongoing efforts to maintain stability along Thailand’s eastern frontier, with troops standing by to protect national sovereignty and respond to any security developments. The brawl, which took place in Soi Saeng Kanchana at around 19:30 on 29 May, left at least two people injured and both businesses damaged. Footage captured during the incident shows two groups engaging in a heated physical confrontation. Chairs were used as weapons, and fists flew as chaos erupted between the rival teams. The restaurants involved are located next to each other and had reportedly clashed multiple times in the past over customer competition. One of the injured was a 65-year-old woman, the mother of one restaurant owner, who was seated at the scene when the violence broke out. She sustained bruises on her body and had shards of glass embedded in her head. Bloodstained kitchen cleavers were later found on a table used for welcoming guests. Authorities arriving at the scene discovered property damage at both restaurants. Glass windows were shattered, furniture had been overturned and bloodstains were visible on the floors. Inside the restaurants, evidence of looting and smashed items suggested the violence had quickly escalated out of control. Eyewitnesses stated that the confrontation began when representatives from both sides appeared to be negotiating a longstanding dispute. However, tempers flared and the conversation quickly turned violent. Witnesses also claimed this was not the first such incident, citing past fights that had resulted in head injuries, slashed arms and even severed fingers. Police at Phaya Thai station confirmed that some of those involved have come forward to file complaints. However, no charges have yet been filed as investigators are still reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence to determine who instigated the latest clash. The incident underscores ongoing tensions between the two businesses, whose rivalry over attracting customers has repeatedly turned physical. In a covert and heavily-armed operation, the elite Hanuman Special Task Force from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) successfully transferred a group of high-profile detainees, including the influential local politician known as “Sor Golf”, from Songkhla Provincial Prison to the Bangkok Remand Prison, amidst fears of a potential ambush or attempted escape. The mission, carried out under utmost secrecy, began in the early hours of 30 May. At 05:00, under direct orders from Pol. Lt. Gen. Wittaya Sriprasertsupab, Commander of the CSD, a special team led by Pol. Col. Pattarapob Patamawong, along with officers from the 6th Division of the CSD, was dispatched to escort the suspects. The detainees, identified as Mr. Siradon Plai-duang (aka Sor Golf), Mr. Pongthep Wadtwilai (aka Nueng Freedom), Mr. Numsek Thongsri, Mr. Rapeepong Sawatchukaew, Mr. Jakkrapong Thepchoom, Mr. Sasarun Sanga-Bankhok, and Mr. Sarayut Noochaikaew, are allegedly linked to powerful criminal networks in southern Thailand. Their transfer came after Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panpet, the national police chief, ordered that the high-profile case be handed over from Region 9 Police to the CSD due to its sensitive nature and the suspects’ reported influence. The convoy, which arrived in Bangkok around 18:00 on the same day, faced delays due to ongoing roadworks in several areas along the southern route. Highway police were coordinated to provide an escort throughout the journey to ensure security and avoid any potential threats. Pol. Lt. Gen. Wittaya stated that, while such prisoner transfers typically fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections, the CSD was called in due to the risk involved in transporting suspects of this calibre over such a long distance. The fear of an attempted rescue, given the detainees’ alleged criminal clout, prompted the deployment of the Hanuman unit equipped with both heavy and light arms for full tactical readiness. Authorities emphasised that secrecy was paramount to the mission’s success. Any leak in information could have compromised safety and escalated the risk of an ambush en route. The detainees are now in custody at the Bangkok Remand Prison as the CSD continues its investigation into a case that has drawn significant public and national attention due to the suspects’ alleged ties to influential circles in the southern provinces.
