Suggestions needed for immigration and Bangkok Bank

Recommended Posts

Posted

I want to open a Bangkok Bank account in Pattaya or Jomtien. I've got a long-term visa.

1) Which immigration office is the best to go to, to get a residence certificate for opening a bank account?

And is there a special department at the immigration office to get a residence certificate, so you don't have to wait that long?

2) What's a good branch of Bangkok Bank where you can open a bank account relatively fast? I've read that at the Jomtien branch it can take a long time.

Immigration usually give a certificate of residence at the office you belong to.

For bank account it seems to be very hard now. I would suggest using an agent.

Even with a long-term visa and not having the Russian (or Chinese) nationality?

No idea but as there is only one office it hardly matters. What is your "long term visa"?

Worth trying: get a Thai TIN so that you have something to show to the bank on top of your visa. In order to get your TIN, tell TRD you need it to open a bank account eg in Singapore or Spain.

Long-term visa with a rental lease as well a residence certificate on the same address is normally all that is needed.

I will only stay for a short while in Pattaya.

Would a TM30 form given by a hotel or AirBnb host be enough?

As said there is only the one on Soi 5, Jomtien. There are specific desks in there, but you use an arrivals one to have your paperwork checked and get a ticket to move on to the correct one. Look up what copies and form are required, and they want to know the reason for needing a residence certificate, plus an original TM30 slip. THe main Bangkok Bank Branch on second Rd (opposite soi 6) used to be best, but these days things are not so easy,

When I opened my account at Bangkok Bank (several years ago), I found that the branch that presented the least problems opening an account was the one in Pattaya on Beach Road.

The branch opposite Soi 6 opens at 8:30am whereas the one on Beach Road doesn't open until 10:00am.  The early opening can be an advantage on extension renewal days.

True. But where you open the account doesn't dictate where you go for the extension paperwork, any branch can do that.

Sorry, I don't get it.

What does opening a bank account have to do with "extension paperwork" ?

I opened an account at the Bangkok bank on Jomtien second road, next to soi 5, very close to immigration. It was a year ago, but very easy. Got my Certificate of Residence, then just walked a couple of hundred metres.

Open at Bangkok bank just before soi 6, second road, right hand side,  heading north

a large branch and quick service.

I always go early morning.

Never a problem in 15 years.

I would recommend using the BKK  Bank branch at Central Festival.  I would not use the one by Immigration--always way to crowded and it's very small.   If you run into difficulties opening an account at BKK at Festival, there are all the other major banks nearby to try on the same floor.   Spouse and I get good service at Yellow Bank, but we also have accounts at BKK.
