Oh wow, here comes the fear mongering posts from nearly 3 years ago.... and Mr Renowned smarter than all, what does the statistics say about who had past problems with delivery?

14 hours ago, cusanus said:

Actually, I have straight A's in research statistics through a masters in soils/chemistry and one formal theorem to my credit. I adjusted my estimate to about 40 over 20 years and 29 7162 forms against 2 extended delays using international tracking. That, my friend, is statistically significant in formal scientific studies.

Ain't you gotcha sum good schooling now?

I worked with PhDs over the years and most could barely dress themselves....but they sure could write and publish numerous White papers as well sumbit/acquire many patents.

It's embarrassing that none of the so called educated ones who like to ramble on with how much they know, didn't create a new thread.

What's the best way to send your 7162 back to the USA?

The best way?

Fly back to the USoA and dump it in a domestic PO box.

I trust the US Postal Service about as much as Thailand's.

If I were to fly back I would hand carry it back, personally deliver it, and watch them tick that little box on their computer saying I'm alive..

That may be the most secure way, but I don't see that requiring an in-person trip to Wilkes-Barre PA can ever be considered the best way.

If you think a courier is more secure and that makes you feel better, you should probably use the physical address and not the PO.

Courier the Form SSA-7162   Private Delivery Service (FedEx (Air-21), UPS, LBC, etc.)
Private Delivery Service (FedEx (Air-21), UPS, LBC, etc.)

Social Security Administration
Data Operations Center
Attn: SSA-7162 Process
1150 E. Mountain Drive
Wilkes-Barre, PA 18767-7162
U.S.A.

That's the address I used. But be aware DHL CM requires a phone number along with the address.
I used the SSA toll free number 800-772-1213.

I got news for you. I took mine to a US Post Office back in 2021 handing it to the USPS employee and it NEVER got delivered. I received a 2nd notice 3 months later

Not sure what country seems more lost and in a complete daze Thailand or America. But I agree thought a few times might have to visit the office in the states just to get their attention. Total space cases as of late.

I can believe that! Seems to be getting worse by the year. Nothing like years ago but now worse than ever. Lost all respect for all government services. With Mr. T around now God help us all.

Still waiting in Phuket Town. My wife said the postal service isn't delivering on Monday and Tuesday due to the holiday.  Hopefully, I'll get it sometime this week.

The 60-day return timeframe starts when it was mailed from the US from what I'm reading.  😞

Good point about the holidays.

But I guess if it doesn't arrive by end of week ...

I am in Australia and haven’t received it yet.  For the past 10 years (except Covid) I have always received it by 2nd week in June (point being always faster than Thailand).  Obviously they mailed it second half of July this year, but mail is so quick to Aus that if I was going to get it I would have got it by now.

Can folks please advise what I should do?  What action should I take?  And when should I do it?  Thanks so much in advance!

You're residence is in Australia, too? I believe if your address is in Australia then you should get the form ONLY every two years. I think it was Pib who was likely correct in saying the blank form must be sent. but probably no earlier than January if you haven't got it by then. Of course, you can't use the barcode if you never received it. You could edit last year's barcode but the style is different this year. I guess you'd have to download and fill in the blank (last rev 2023). https://www.ssa.gov/foreign/ssa7162ocrsm.pdf There isn't much room for address in the upper field, but I'm sure you could use the lower area. Can you not check with other expats in Australia and see when they're arriving there or at all this year? And DO NOT forget to put your SSAN below the phone number box.

Beneficiaries with addresses in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and APO/FPO/DPO receive the form every two years. Beneficiaries in countries not mentioned above receive the form every year. If you're confused, call or email Manila. READ THIS:  https://www.udonvfw10249.org/ssa.html

Still not received mine here in Khon Kaen. Zip 40000

Sorry if this is a silly question, but was that EMS or something the Thai Postal Service offers?

CM - Stopped at my old Condo this morning and there it was. Woohoo! Came in last Sat, they were going to forward it tomorrow.

FWIW - US postal service is not good. However do not underestimate how bad the Thai post has become.

If delivered to the address on envelope, it's not the postal services fault.

the 355 rate is not EMS, just airmail with tracking EMS is closer to 1500 baht

Registered. I think I said I sent my daughter a letter with EMS in Jan that took three months. Actually, it was registered. The next one took six weeks, so I don't know what the problem was since tracking stopped at NY customs in both cases.

Not referring to the delivery of the mail to my condo.

----

FWIW refers to sending it back. After having to send multiple responses in the past, I assumed it was US mails fault. However, CM, FBook posters have complained about cards, mail, sent back to euroland, very little arrived, & that to different counties.

I make copies of the ss7162 form, in case I get the follow up letter. Then send multiples.

I've never not received something in the post.  Once was months late, and had a tire tread mark on it, so explains that, and probably found when someone swept under something.

Only once was something I sent not received, and yea, it was the 7162 ... BUT ... they had a know scam issue going on at WB, and it was rectified.  That was confirmed with an IRS agent, strangely, that I was chatting to, as we got on that subject.

Really don't know how y'all lose stuff all the time, mail, passports, money, when having topics how to keep things safe.   Always stories of lost items.

So guessing it was delivered, to the address on the envelop, and in a timely manner, as everyone got their this week or so, except me and the other fellow in the thread :cheesy:

I'm out the door Sunday, so I won't see it for a couple weeks, unless it arrives before Sunday.

Read it again if you cant figure out what I said. Knock yourself out.

Guess I've been lucky. In 20 years never had a parcel sent or received that didn't arrive in a timely manner. The two registered letters were probably derailed because there was a debit card in them. On the other hand, a friend could not get any US government mail unless it was specifically asked for as a test and after that it went dead again. Go figure. There must be a demon attached to some folks. I'm sticking with standard (priority) cheap and easy airmail. For me, both Thai post and USPS are reliable as rain in September. Knock on wood.

You said the ThaiPost is bad, yet it showed up on time.  Apparently USPS is good also, as you don't state, what, how, or when they were bad.   Has nothing to do with USPS or ThaiPost, it's a Soc Sec issue, and I'm not even sure what or how that was a problem.

Just a bunch of nervous Nellies, even after SS advised, the 7162, will be a bit later this year.

Mailing advice please!  Good news folks, mine arrived today.

When you guys use EMS in Thailand, are you able to still use the specific return envelope provided by SSA, or does the post office make you put it in a different envelope?  If I want to return mine Express from Australia, they put it in a different envelope.

Bottom line is — is it risky to return the form in a different envelope than the actual return envelope specifically provided by SSA?
