Crossy Posted Monday at 09:05 AM Posted Monday at 09:05 AM Our local "wholesaler" is open 9AM - 6PM with no apparent restrictions on quantity. They do sell a small selection of non-alcohol goods, but I'm not really sure under what laws they operate. This is Thailand after all "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Why is smoking tobacco and cannabis legal but a vape is illegal? Why is buying a lottery ticket legal but betting on a football match illegal? Why are ST rooms in Pattaya bars allowed, but not in BKK bars? It's all very strange. Perfectly logical. 2-5 PM is when the majority of work gets done. In the "Hub of Lack of Advance Planning", few workers have the forethought to bring beer to work with them. 1

Unfortunately nobody worked out the war was over until more than 70 years later when the entire country switched from pubs to French style bistros overnight. This is all excessively silly in Thailand where the tourists can't buy a drink but all the locals ignore these silly restrictions. Don't ask me I don't give a damn next stop is Vietman - I can't remember who said that, of course I'm far too young. I think you've got it bass ackwards. Alcohol sales are permitted during the lunch period, 11am - 2pm. I've read that the 2pm cutoff was so that the workers would come back from the pub (cannot provide source). I can understand that because when I was working we had to be back before 2pm otherwise the boss would have to come looking for us at the local and drag us back by the scruff of our necks. As for it affecting tourists, that's a bit of a stretch. Tourists can find alcohol just as easily as locals during the 2pm-5pm blackout. I've only not been able to find a beer in weird places like Si Racha where many restaurants refused to serve us between 2pm and 5pm. No idea why, maybe the local BiB want too much tea money or the venues are all holier-than-thou. The only tourists it affects are the kind that want to buy a large Chang in the afternoon and walk around the streets swigging from the bottle. Not that there's anything wrong with that I used to do it myself when I was here as a tourist. Not large bottles though, small cans of Singha Draft. I'm a sophisticated bogan.

Bert got kinky Posted Monday at 10:05 AM Posted Monday at 10:05 AM Surely only an alcoholic would have problems with this law, it's only 3 hours FFS! 1 3

KhunLA Posted Monday at 10:10 AM Posted Monday at 10:10 AM Would think, just an attempt to keep alcohol from students, considering the time slots. Pre & after school hrs.
Felt 35 Posted Monday at 10:18 AM Posted Monday at 10:18 AM What is the point.... difficult to answer here where there are reasons behind all laws🙃
phetphet Posted Monday at 10:21 AM Posted Monday at 10:21 AM i vaguely remember there was something similar in the UK when I was a youngster. It was prohibited to buy alcohol at certain times from what were called "Off Licences". Even our local pub had a separate door to a small room with a counter where they sold alcohol to be consumed off the premises.

I understand most of you have your own corner stores which will sell you some or you stock up in advance. But i like to go on trips around the country and it would be alot better if every 7-11 would allow me to buy a beer when i wanted it. It also seems like lose lose for everyone involved. They will legalize weed and casinos and try everything to get more tourists BUT no we are not degenerate enough to sell alcohol 24 7 even though everybody drinks and drives during all hours of the day regardless "They will legalize weed and casinos" Where are the casinos? There's non here in Pattaya. Nor any in Bangkok. There is talk of legalising casinos; but that's all. :though everybody drinks and drives during all hours of the day regardless" Simply NOT TRUE Your diatribe is a tad ill informed. If you must have a beer then go into a pub or bar. That's what I do. 1
