Residents of a quiet neighbourhood in Rayong province were left stunned when a large python was discovered curled up under the bonnet of a pickup truck, apparently digesting a chicken it had just devoured.

The incident occurred around 11:00 on 9 June, in the Rarn Nam alley of Pluak Daeng District. Local rescue workers were alerted by a resident who spotted the snake slithering into the engine compartment of a parked vehicle and feared it could pose a danger.

Upon arriving at the scene, rescue personnel found a pickup truck, parked in front of a house. Opening the bonnet revealed a two-metre-long python coiled calmly within the engine bay, seemingly enjoying a post-meal rest.

The rescue team managed to safely extract the snake within minutes and later released it back into its natural habitat.

The vehicle’s owner, 29-year-old Mr Nikhom said he had earlier heard unusual noises coming from his chicken coop but had not investigated at the time. “I didn’t think much of it,” he said, “until I opened the bonnet during a routine check and nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw the python curled up inside.”

Mr Nikhom believes the snake had consumed one of his chickens and taken refuge in the vehicle’s engine compartment to digest its meal and escape the heat.

“We sometimes see snakes around here,” he added, “but I’ve never found one sleeping in my truck before.”
