His tariff plan is falling apart, China is making him look very weak, contrary to what he promised inflation continues to rage despite the fake numbers coming out of Washington, the economy appears to be imploding, the US is losing its influence daily, Brics is getting stronger by the day, and Trump appears to be failing miserably.

I'm talking about future elections, which will endorse or condemn the present action. Personally, I believe all troops should be withdrawn and let Los Angeles respond as it wants. But ICE should have full authority to protect themselves with deadly force if assaulted, blockaded, or otherwise attacked. Otherwise, if residents want to burn down their shops and stores, that's fine with me.

He could not say how much in excess of 2 hours.  In contrast, as of  2007, all LAPD personnel receive a basic 10 hours in crowd control. It doesn't matter whether they work traffic or homicide, all personnel are required to take the training. This is before the training given to the specialized units. This basic  training requirement  was implemented after the MacCarthur Park mess, when the LAPD contained an immigration enforcement protest through an over use of  force.   There is additional training for crowd control with time designated for specialty. There is a mandatory  6.5-hour course on deploying 40mm rounds for crowd control, plus an additional 4-hour training for supervisors. An additional six hours are dedicated to “the application of less-lethal force.” Every two years, officers take eight hours of training as a refresher.   There is a 24 hour  continuing education requirement to be completed every 2 years. Within that requirement are refresher courses on perishable skills that include;  Arrest & Control - 4 hour minimum,  Use of Force - 4 hour minimum.

 

The takeaway is that the police tactical response unit members tasked with  crowd control intervention have  30+ hours of training to begin with and then an additional 10-20 hours every 2 years plus practical experience of dealing with civilians every day. This is in sharp contrast to the USMC personnel who have been given 2 hours of training and some batons. That is not appropriate, nor fair to the  marines. That is not what they volunteered for.

 

And as a reminder; The Marines  will not have arrest authority. Under the Posse Comitatus Act, U.S. service members are barred from policing citizens on American soil. The Marines cannot be used against the protestors, otherwise there will be a constitutional and legal crisis that will not end well for the Federal government.

 

There is little point in deploying military personnel under the  present circumstances other than to make a political statement.

Let the police respond first. If they cannot do the job, then there are legal grounds to intervene.

 

 

I don't know about Marine Corps crowd/riot control training but I have recieved over 24 hours of this type of training. I worked the 2000 Democratic National Convention which was held ironically in downtown LA.  It got rather "spirited" and and a handful of "peaceful" protestors threw lit cigarettes at our horses.  This could have been tragic.  Based upon my experience I did not feel the 24 hours of trainig was actually enough. Most of the time it was like organized chaos and keeping accountability of every officer in the squad was difficult.  Also, wearing all the gear for hours was difficult.  Obviously the mentality of people is much different now.  Back in 2000 few people actually challenged or resisted.  Even with that arresting just one person took at times 6 to 8 people (4 to 6 to provide a safey circle while the rest actually took control of the suspect and applied the zip ties).  I doubt any combat Marine will be proficient in crowd/riot and I doubt very much an agressive Marine will be very proficient in "de-escalatiing) because us cops were not and still are not good at that during this type of event.
