A woman in Sattahip received a shock early morning on 15 June, when she opened her front door and came face-to-face with a massive python lying just outside. The unexpected visitor has since sparked a frenzy among local lottery enthusiasts, who believe the snake’s appearance is a sign of impending good fortune.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanathammasathan Sattahip Foundation responded to a call from Ms. Vanida Thanamong, 58, the owner of the house located at 108/18, Amarin Village, Soi 3, Sattahip Subdistrict, Chonburi Province.

Upon arrival, two rescue officers found a reticulated python measuring over three metres in length, had moved and was coiled motionless on a wall just three metres from the house entrance. Using a standard snake-catching pole with a loop, rescuers initially secured the snake by the head with ease. However, as the reptile woke, it began to struggle violently and broke free, slithering up onto the roof. After a brief pursuit involving climbing onto the roof, the team successfully recaptured the snake without injury.

Ms. Vanida recounted the moment: “I opened the door to leave for work and was shocked to see this enormous snake lying there. I was absolutely terrified.” She further revealed that this wasn’t the first time she had seen the snake, believing it to be the same one that had entered her home on two previous occasions. However, in both earlier incidents, the reptile mysteriously disappeared before it could be located by rescuers.

Given that the incident occurred so close to the next lottery draw on 16 June, Ms. Vanida now believes the python may be a bearer of luck. “It’s the third time this snake has shown up, and now it’s finally allowed itself to be caught. I think it’s trying to bring me good fortune,” she said, adding that she intends to play her house number, 108/18, in the lottery.

Rescue worker Mr. Wicha Jindanin, radio call sign 142, confirmed that he had previously visited the home twice in response to snake sightings, but the creature had vanished both times. “We’re sure it’s the same python. Why it was lying there calmly this time, we can’t explain, but it certainly gave us a bit of a chase once it woke up,” he remarked.

The python was later released into a safe, forested area, far from residential properties.

As the story spreads across social media and local news, many were eyeing the number 10818 as a potential lucky pick, yet another example of how unexpected wildlife encounters continue to inspire belief in omens and fortune in Thai culture.

Now she has revealed the winning number, the price of 10818 will go through the roof. (In any case, the winning ticket has usually been sold to a Hi-So, before the draw.)
