Hua Hin blows. Worst beach place in Thailand. Water is brown. Place is boring. Drive is too far from Bangkok. Place only has one road in and out. Awful. Almost as bad as all your posts, Susan.

Don't know what water you've been in, but Hua Hin beach certainly isn't brown, as for Bangkok, 2 to 3 hours, mate, just what is wrong with you, anyway, I hope you stay away, Hua Hin doesn't want whingers.

  • I’ve just returned from a (very) short gaycation on the tragic remains of Koh Phi Phi, last seen by me in the early 2000s when I was young, flexible, and hadn’t yet developed opinions about cutlery.

  • It was paradise in 1985. I thought I'd died and landed in heaven. I was taken out on a fishing boat with an all-Muslim crew. They were great. The skipper even let me helm the boat when coming back in

  • Hua Hin is the best place for a beach holiday

I remember the early nineties onwards.

I visited  here in the late eighties, I was a short two week stay visitor with Kuoni, so irt was basically a package holiday.

But, in the Nineties, when I just got a flight and found my way around, Thailand was absolutely fantastic.

Well cheap too—car rentals, flights, hotels and property etc—and exchange rates very favourable post-97. People didn’t walk around staring at their phones and bumping into things either (because there weren’t any). 🙂

Hey-ho, nothing lasts. Just think ourselves lucky we got to experience it.

Phi Phi was covered in trash when I went there around 2001.  The tsunami apparently washed a lot of the garbage out to sea, so I guess it was fairly clean for awhile after that.  Sounds like it's back to being a trash heap again.

Almost impossible now to avoid the effects of mass tourism, anywhere. In the 1970s/1980s my Thai wife and I used to visit many of what were then beautiful and restful places in Thailand. Koh Samui, for example, was a paradise. No roads, and accomodation was a rented hammock on the beach, cost 10 baht, meals shared with local people. Happy days...

Can you add a little context please, Bob?

I'm not sure exactly who this new character is meant to be.  Is he a tourist or an ex-pat?

Whoever he is he's certainly not Cornish...

i feel you.. been there 1987 the first time...compared to today it was a non existing tourism industry

That's what I tell myself, it concerns all the places we have known and like in Thailand ( for me between 1975 and 1985)

Nowadays, the countryside is still pleasant to live in

Pre tsunami was fine, and haven't been since.   Looking at YT, won't be visiting unless there's another scamdemic :coffee1:

Then would probably be 1st on my list to visit 😎

No comparison, Islam more than 148k terror attacks since 1979 killing over 210k people, thats not including the 6k plus in Southern Thailand

This is far outside the original thread

But Muslims might’ve another view of how things are, or have been where powerful states continuously have bombed them since the Iran Irak war, interfering for ? But let’s keep it since they overthrow the Sha in Iran, just another despot in the hand of the west who played along as long he could. Long story short. Terror is also bombing innocent people who just happened to be in the way when carrying out long distance missions.

Hua Hin is definitely NOT the place for a beach holiday

The beach in front of the Hilton is filthy and the sharp rocks make swimming dangerous.

Further south towards Kao Ta Kiab and beyond there are some lovely beaches.

I was there a couple of weeks ago.

Hua Hin has 5 beaches. Who cares about 1 small section. You only have to travel 600m south to find a nice spot.

Hua hin is the best left after what happened to all the other beach spots

That's part of my awareness, I do not believe in the western experiment, which is simulated to the US experiment.

Mixing strong cultures to quick will lead to internal problems and conflicts.

Still domestic terror is not the problem.

8500 BC I was in a place now called California.    I had everything to myself.

Just visited again today.

Amazing, it's not the same.

Shocking news!!!!!!

If only we had some technology that could keep us up to date.
