Fortunately, this doesn't affect the gameplay too much - you have a limited amount of time to drop each tile/ katra/ disc thing (otherwise they fall of their own accord), and have to disappear a set number to complete each wave. New patterns appear the more you play, but look out for the purple-and-yellow spiral Catalyst piece, which zaps several surrounding items, or a whole bunch of them if you can get it right in the middle.
