I thought it would get easier here at older age
Healthcare for Older Expats in Thailand – A Word to the Wise and for those of us with a few more candles on the cake… As we get older, medical needs naturally increase by a lot!— but there are two things that many older expats in Thailand either underestimate or find out the hard way: Health Insurance Gaps - Far too many long-term expats don’t have sufficient insurance to cover serious health issues later in life. Premiums shoot up with age, and some find themselves priced out or excluded altogether. Relying on “pay as you go” might work for minor stuff — but not for a stroke, bypass, or cancer treatment. Secondly, upselling health checks & “observation” tactics - Be cautious, especially with larger private hospitals in the tourist-heavy areas (Pattaya, Phuket, etc). There are reports — and I know one example firsthand — of hospitals inviting older patients (invariably 70+) in for a routine checkup, only to be strongly advised to stay overnight “just for observation.” Translation: they talk you into staying, then charge eye-watering rates for a night in a glorified hotel bed with a saline drip. Some facilities look excellent but see older foreigners as cash cows. Always get a second opinion, don’t be afraid to question recommendations, and never feel pressured into a hospital stay you’re unsure about. -

New passport questions - retirement visa - is CW asking for a bank statement?
I just got my new passport. My 90-day report is due so am planning a visit to CW to get my visa stamps transferred to the new passport and do the in person 90 day report. Will photocopies of my updated bank book be sufficient, or are they also asking for a statement from the bank like I submit during my annual extension application? Will I also need to update my TM30? many thanks in advance. -

Tourism Israel-Iran Conflict Puts a Damper on Thailand's Tourist Dreams
Courtesy of chatgpt: The statement contains a mix of historical linguistic facts and contemporary misunderstandings, and it reflects a common misconception. Here's a breakdown: ✅ Partly True (Linguistic Origin): The term "Semitic" originally refers to a language family, which includes Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, Amharic, and others. In that sense, both Jews and Arabs are "Semitic peoples" linguistically. ❌ Misleading or Incorrect (Modern Meaning of "Anti-Semitism"): The term "anti-Semitism" was coined in 19th-century Europe by German journalist Wilhelm Marr, and from the beginning, it specifically referred to hostility or prejudice against Jews, not against all Semitic peoples. In modern usage, "anti-Semitism" = anti-Jewish prejudice, not general hatred of Semitic-language speakers. Major organizations like the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), Oxford Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, and the UN all define anti-Semitism as specifically anti-Jewish. ⚠️ Misuse of the Linguistic Argument: Some people use the broader linguistic definition of "Semitic" to claim that "Arabs can't be anti-Semitic" or "Criticism of Jews isn't anti-Semitism", but these arguments misrepresent the actual historical and current usage of the term. The phrase "Jews don't have a monopoly on anti-Semitism" is often used to deflect or delegitimize concerns about anti-Jewish hate, which can veer into bad-faith or antisemitic rhetoric itself. ✅ Summary: Semitic = linguistic term for a group of languages (Hebrew, Arabic, etc.) Anti-Semitism = modern term for anti-Jewish hatred. It has nothing to do with Arabic speakers in this context. So, the post is technically semi-accurate on language, but misleading and wrong on the sociopolitical and historical meaning of "anti-Semitism". I'm not gonna even waste time responding to the rest of the biased nonsense in the post- 1

A scenario of an after action discussion following air attack on nuclear facilities in Iran
Donald has warned Iran that within 2 weeks "something will happen". Giving them time to "relocate" critically enriched Urainium away from the targeted aereas. Delaiying Iranian goals for a couple of years at best. Atomic bombs are made in the human brain, supported by some basic physics. Why is the US constantly underestimating the intellectuel capabilities of their adversaries?
