Bangkok authorities team up to launch 'White Vest' initiative, enhancing urban safety and drug awareness

 

On Saturday, 21st June 2025, Deputy Governor Sunthorn Sunchart led the "White Vests for Safe and Drug-Free Zones" initiative, collaborating with Amnat Laokoti from Bangkok's Narcotics Control Office.

 

Hundreds of motorbike taxi riders and delivery drivers gathered at Din Daeng to celebrate World Drug Day on 26th June by pledging against drug involvement and advocating for a safer capital.

 

The initiative, supported by over 700 participants, including community leaders and representatives from various organisations, aims to strengthen community involvement in drug prevention.

 

Partners include the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Metropolitan Police, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, and international entities like GIZ. Key activities offered health checks and safety workshops, driving the message forward.

 

Amnat Laokoti emphasised sustainable drug prevention efforts and community participation by engaging motorbike taxi leaders, who are crucial eyes and ears on the streets.

 

This collaboration also extends to training sessions that enhance the skills of these local leaders, driving the "Healthy Riders, Safe Driving, Drug-Free" network.

 

This year's event focuses on broader community vigilance with free health checks as part of a city-wide campaign, encouraging riders to actively help maintain safe neighbourhoods.

 

This continues the 2022-2023 programme, which engaged over 2,426 participants, with plans to expand to 5,000 by 2026 across Bangkok's 18 districts.

 

The event also provided drug screenings, health checks, financial advice, and helmet distribution, encouraging public vigilance. Residents are urged to report any drug-related activities to the 24-hour hotline at 1386.
