Opal Suchata Chuangsri, Thailand's first Miss World, has been back home for just a week, capturing the spotlight from beauty pageant fans and media alike. Her return has gone beyond celebratory activities, touching on vital diplomatic matters amidst regional tensions.

The 21-year-old political science student from Thammasat University recently met with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at Government House on June 17, amidst political upheavals.

Expressing solidarity, Opal offered support to the Prime Minister, acknowledging the challenges she faces and highlighting her as a role model during the Miss World competition.

In return, the Prime Minister lauded Opal's initiatives, including her breast cancer awareness campaign, "Opal For Her", and enlisted her help in promoting Thai culture internationally.

When grilled on Thai-Cambodian diplomatic frictions on a TV news program, Opal used her knowledge from International Relations studies to advocate for peaceful dialogue. She emphasised empathy and understanding as keys to resolving personal and international disputes.

This experience, she highlighted, serves as invaluable training for her intended career in international relations.

At a press conference on June 20 at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel, Opal unveiled her upcoming international charity tour. Her travels will span at least ten countries, including Indonesia and several African nations, with the UK as her first stop once her work visa is finalised.

Opal shared her ambition to travel the globe for charity, bringing pride to Thailand that transcends monetary value.

Her role as Miss World not only elevates her personal ambitions but also positions her as a diplomatic figure promoting peace and cultural exchange on a global platform, highlighting a significant shift from traditional pageant roles to more impactful responsibilities.

Well, that will sink her hopes, never pick sides in politics.
