H.Pylori test in Bangkok -- cheapest option?

Recommended Posts

Looking for a cheap option for an H.Pylori test. Are there labs that offer this direct-to-customer without a hospital or clinic in between? Or any local or smaller hospitals or clinics that don't charge an arm and a leg for it?

Looking for Bangkok.

Here in Sisaket I found out I had it during an gastroscopy and Colonoscopy I had done. They prescribed the usual 2 antibiotics and a proton pump antacid, which messes up your gut microbiome but is the only known way to rid the infection. I wanted to get a re-test after the treatment but they don't do it at the same government hospital unless you get another endoscopy. I was told the breath test had to be done in Sisaket hospital, as the one I went to didn't do the breath test, so it seems not any government hospital will work. I've asked if I could get a breath test at a regular doctor but they didn't know, so that might also be an option you can try. I don't think clinics will have it. I'm sending the link for Bangkok hospital, as it has it listed there..........https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/bangkok/content/save-your-stomach-diseases-risk-with-c-13-ubt

I don't know about Bangkok but in Pattaya there are several options. The only place I found offering the breath test was Bangkok Hospital Pattaya at 3300 baht. Neither Pattaya memorial nor the government hospital on buakhao currently (April 2025) offer the breath test. I ended up getting an antigen test at lifecare labs. I tested negative, but the sensitivity of blood antigen tests is not great compared to the breath test. Please report back if you find the breath test at a reasonable price in Bangkok. I still have symptoms and partner had H. pylori so I may get it done next time I'm up that way.

As others  mentioned there are different types of tests and they are not of equal reliability.

Breath test is preferred to stool antigen test but more complex to do. As it includes administration of a medication it is unlikely to be available from a lab.   And -- important -- should not be done while taking PPIs (omeprazole etc).

You can inquire at https://rsuhealth.com/

If they cannot do the breath test, they might be able to do the stool antigen test.

I did the breath test at RSU Health,  i vaguely recall it was around 2k baht.

They give you instructions to follow to blow air in the bag, maybe find that in advance so you know exactly how to do it correctly

that would have been the stool antigen test, not the (more accurate) breath test

My gf had stomach issues for years. I finally just treated her with the antibiotics and PPI without doing any h.pyroli testing. Problem solved. No more stomach issues.

Cheaper to treat than test.

I'm not sure if a diy breath test is available for those who don't want to see a doctor.

However, the breath test in hospitals are a bit more accurate.

The price for a diy test is just 800 Baht if I'm right. (Breath test)

Yes that's correct. They are a good lab and don't offer breath test so I imagine it would be rare / not possible to find a lab without a doctor offering breath test.

It's good that her stomach issues were stopped, but taking antibiotics without knowing the reasons for the issues is never a good idea, as they can do more harm by upsetting the gut microbiome. Gastritis comes from many things, like dirty water, food not cooked thoroughly, ulcers, H Pylori, using NSAIDS for extended periods, or drinking too much alcohol. If she had it for years it likely was H Pylori but better to check first as you want to make sure what she needs to take.

Get the info here, one of the best sources out there. Depending on the situation the drugs may change so I'm not going to discuss the ones we used.

What i don't understand with H.Pylori is that nearly half the people in the world have it (so i see from my research). The vast majority have no symptoms.

So my point being you eradicate it, then go kiss someone and you catch it again?

I am pretty certain you can just catch it again and again.

You are correct. Too many idiots posting here. H pylori can contribute to symptoms, but its often not the main reason why you feel bloated or have acid.

Yeah ...  most indicate that half the world has H.pylori. In developing nations like Thailand, India, etc they estimate 70-90% of the population have H.pylori.

So if you are still single, or into the P4p scene and go kiss a girl- you will just immediatley get reinfected again.
