Two local fishermen were rescued after clinging to plastic containers in rough seas off the coast of Krabi, after their longtail boat was smashed apart by strong waves and high winds. The incident occurred on 24 June in the waters between Koh Poda and Koh Gai, within the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park.

According to reports, park rangers aboard a speedboat from Mu Ko Lanta National Park braved treacherous conditions to reach the two men, who were found floating in the sea using plastic containers to stay afloat. The rescue team managed to pull them to safety using ropes, with both men escaping unharmed but having lost all their belongings.

The two survivors were identified as brothers, Mr. Massan Changnam and Mr. Peerapat Changnam, residents of Bo Sri Boya Subdistrict, Nuea Khlong District, Krabi. The pair had set out for a routine fishing trip at around 08:00 that morning. However, powerful gusts and waves caused their longtail boat, powered by a three-cylinder engine, to capsize and break apart.

After receiving an alert from fellow fishermen, Mr. Chaiyapruk Weerawong, Chief of Mu Ko Lanta National Park, immediately dispatched a rescue team. Mr. Phaiwan Phosri, a forest protection officer stationed at Lanta Unit 3 (Khlong Sai), was en route to Noppharat Thara Beach when he diverted to the scene and executed the successful rescue operation.

Mr. Therdthai Khwanthong, Director of the Protected Area Regional Office 5, confirmed the details of the incident and praised the quick-thinking and bravery of the park rangers involved.

Thanks to their efforts, a potentially fatal tragedy was averted, and the two fishermen are now safely back on land, grateful to be alive.
