Thai PM Calls Meeting to Discuss Police Pay Hike

The Thai Prime Minister has scheduled a key meeting to discuss police salary adjustments and computer science criteria.

 

On 25th June, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, chair of the Thai Police Commission, has set a meeting for 14:00 on 27th June at Si Yanon Conference Room to address several key issues.

 

The agenda includes five main points: announcements from the chair, approval of the previous meeting's minutes, updates from subcommittees on discipline and investigations, and strategies to resolve police appointment issues.

 

Crucially, discussions will focus on the first-half salary raises for police officers level S.6 and above.

 

Additionally, adjustments to computer science qualifications for specific technical roles will be considered following previous observations.

getting corruption out of the police is like trying to "remove the bar from a barlady ..."

it would take much stronger (more draconian) measures to achieve the nearly impossible goal of reducing police corruption ...

there's no hope that anything will truly change in our lifetime ...

Can not argue with you there. But the timing of this smells alot like the PM wants to make sure the police are committed to her agenda and to protecting her. What better way then to promise salary increases to the lower ranks and large increases to the higher ones.

The police have always been part of Taksin government. That is why they do not like the military who can temporarily tell them what to do when Taksin is not in charge.

personally I prefer things how they are and have always been.   The ability to buy ones way out of trouble can be very useful

Driving the wrong way should lead to an immediate impounding of vehicle, a 10,000 baht fine and license revocation. After retesting/relicensing, as well as paying the fine, only then should they receive their vehicle back, that's if the vehicle is properly registered and insured.

I like many others left a miserable over regulated nanny state to come here and I have no wish to see Thailand morph into a close of that. Why anybody would wish for that is beyond me , looks like you are not really comfortable with paying off the police either, how bizarre.

I learnt to adapt my driving to suit conditions here, its not hard, you could start by learning to look both ways,  let us know how things improve as a result

If that's why you left and came here, the problem might be you, not the place you left. I prefer to have all these laws, rules, regulations, and enforcement so that we are all on the same page. So why did you choose to leave your civilised over regulated country  to come here if you prefer strict rules and regulations ? what a strange choice.

Was it lack of research?, or did you just expect Thailand to change to suit you? I think you may be disappointed

I came here to help support my wife and daughter, I hate pretty much everything else about Thailand, it's a cesspool of the worst kind. All I ask is they priorities the safety of everyone, something they are failing at miserably. Laws, rules, and regulations are put in place to keep us all safe from those who believe and embrace chaos, until of course that chaos effects them, then they cry foul.
