A search effort concluded in sorrow on the 27 June, when the body of a missing local official was recovered, following a flash flood that swept his vehicle into a deep ravine in Chaiyaphum province.

Mr. Somsuan Nolach, aged 59, a member of the Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) for Village 11, Ban Dong Lan in Watabaek Subdistrict, Thep Sathit District, had been missing since the night of 26 June. He was driving his white Ford four-door pickup truck when a powerful flash flood, triggered by torrential rains cascading from the Phang Hoei mountain range, swept the vehicle off the road and into a ravine.

Initial rescue operations recovered the vehicle the following morning, roughly 100 metres from the point it was swept away, but there was no sign of the driver.

At approximately noon on 27 June, rescue teams discovered Mr. Somsuan’s body lodged beneath a fallen tree and large rocks in a section of the Huai Farang stream, around 600 metres from where the vehicle was found and more than 700 metres from the original crash site.

The recovery operation was challenging due to the strong current and numerous obstacles in the stream, including boulders and submerged debris.

Authorities continue to warn residents in mountainous areas to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the current period of unpredictable and intense rainfall.
