Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira will depart for the United States tonight, aiming to negotiate reciprocal tariffs and non-tariff measures to secure benefits for Thailand. Leading the Thai delegation, Pichai will engage in crucial talks with US officials on July 3 regarding customs duties.

These negotiations follow extensive online discussions and consultations with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). Pichai emphasised that Thailand prioritises national interests, seeking a balanced agreement that caters to both US constraints and Thai demands for a mutually beneficial outcome.

The agenda includes discussions on non-tariff measures, such as rules and regulations that can impede trade. Addressing these could significantly streamline import-export processes, fostering smoother business operations.

Drawing on other countries’ experiences with the USTR, Pichai suggested that a well-negotiated proposal might extend the US tariff adjustment period. Although some academics predict a potential 18% US tariff on Thai goods, the actual rate remains uncertain.

This expedited trip is set against a looming deadline, with hopes pinned on achieving favourable terms that will bolster Thailand’s competitive position in global trade.

Hit them with the 36%. Anything that has made in Thailand I put back on the shelf or don't order it.  Let them cry to China...

I think you'll find it's the other way around, you've been getting all the benefits for years.

Now it's time to level the playing field.

Why isn’t the PM going? Other country leaders have. Maybe she’s planning on another trip soon. One way. Regarding tariff Thailand doesn’t deserve a reprieve since it puts tariffs on USA industries.

She's just been suspended by the Constitutional Court.

You're out of your league, kid...

Trump's team will destroy you, I hope.

...Sounds Like A False Pretext...On The Eve Of Their Demise...Dissolution....

Waste of time. I learned from the irrational Trump haters here(there are many) that his tariffs are a tax on Americans and are paid 100% by Americans. So, nothing for Thailand to worry about. Easy wasn't it🤣

Trump does not want any balanced agreement but capitulation of foreign national sovereignty. He must be seen as the Victor, not the Collaborator.
