  • Trump isn't, nor should he be, responsible for the healthcare of the rest of the world.    Much of the money is creamed off by corrupt politicians before it reaches the needy anyway.

  • Bad news.  There are studies out already showing that millions starve every year because the collective West can't afford to prop up the entire 3rd world.    That's the way the world is, and

That's the way the world is, and the way it will always be.  Long before the Bad Orange Man.  And it'll be that way long after they plant daisies over him.

In the meantime, look beyond CNN and MSDNC to see the lunacy that USAID has been funding around the world.  It needs to be reformed.  Bigly.

Pathetic reply. Everything can always be reformed and made better, except for your brain. Have you considered a brain transplant.

By far the ugliest part of this aid (old) story is that most of it quickly finds the pockets of corrupt African "officials.

"Trump’s Foreign Aid Cuts Could Result in Millions of Preventable Deaths"

What this statement is in effect saying is that United States aid had hitherto (and despite its corruption and "politicisation") been saving millions of preventable deaths.

The onus to do this should not be on one single country but on all countries able to contribute, whether through funding or directly-applied services.

There should be an international organisation to oversee and organise this, with oversight by all nations that contribute and receive aid.  With a view to eliminating corruption and the furtherance of foreign policies through 'colour revolutions'.

Another hundred million from everyone else should cover the shortfall. Although half will still be wasted. Charity dude drives a Mercedes, poor people eat a bag of millet.

Budgets are already allocated to programs. It cannot be changed at once.

And, as usual, you have no proof that half is wasted...

On this matter as on several others, a key issue is the sudden change of policy.

There is absolutely no way alternative solutions may be found and implemented quickly. For the people who were relying on it to survive, they may just die.

That is not true at all.  The U.S. is far from the only country in the world with a foreign aid program.  Most of the U.S. aid to Kenya is channeled through businesses, NGOs, charities and local groups.  Basically, the U.S. pays the bills but it doesn't actively distribute the aid.   There's no major obstacle for another country, international organization or relief group to step in and fill the breach. The Arab petro-states, the EU and individual European countries as well as Japan, China, Australia, South Korea and others have plenty of money.  Let them take over from the U.S.  Many of those countries already have aid programs in Kenya. Just expand them.

They have allocated their aid budgets to other projects (or to a part of projects shared with usaid)  and already started to finance them. And the projects they are financing also need that money.

And a large number of them proportionally pay more than the US did.

Quite interesting. 🙂

The GDP of the EU is around 2/3 of the US GDP.

If you add the EU contribution and the individual contributions of EU member, you get a number which is much higher than the US contribution!

QED!

That's true, but it still doesn't stop other nations from taking over from the U.S., especially on a five-year basis.  I was responding to the estimate in The Lancet that 14 million preventable deaths would occur by 2030 if the U.S. cuts foreign aid spending by 83%.  That's only true if no one else provides the aid as the U.S. would have.  It may not be considered "fair" because other countries already give more foreign aid per capita than the U.S., but it's not impossible for them to do so and thereby save those 14 million people.

Which countries? European countries that now have to increase their military spending? That's very unlikely. It may well lead them to decrease their aid budget, rather than increase it.

Nice spin.  The USA has paid to defend the EU since WW2.  This, the EU can pony up more cash.

That's strange.  I don't remember pissing in your corn flakes.

As has been said, Europe gives a lot more aid than the USA does. Germany, UK and Sweden alone give more than the USA, and the EU also gives an amount equivalent to about 60% of what the USA gives, on top. The USA is a skinflint. Anyway who gets the most aid from the USA? Guess. Should be obvious Israel. They get 3.8 billion every year, about 400 US dollars for every Israeli.  And last year, about 20 billion. I bet that aid is not reduced in Trump's budget.

It would be nice if Europe could help make up the Aid deficit. But Europe is being squeezed, They are providing aid to Ukraine (double what USA has provided), have suffered economic problems due to rise in oil and gas prices in the Ukraine war (from which the USA has benefitted), while Trump is screwing Europe on tariffs. They also get all the refugee problems to deal with from  Ukraine, Africa and the Middle East, which does not affect the USA much. Some European countries are already cutting their aid budgets (e.g. UK) because they also have deficits in  national budgets. taxation is going up and living standards down.

Meanwhile in the USA, the rich are going to get tax cuts. Paid for by everyone else - in the whole world.
