Yes, but I have a Thai wife and family

Yes, doesn't she want to live in Thailand?

Or is it great there in Australia for some reason?

Look, I don't know where you're from, she only likes to see her mum, who is over 80 years old, yes, she makes good money as a nurse in Australia, sometimes over 60AUD  per hour in Thailand, she would be nothing

I dont know how she puts up with you. You seem to add nothing to her life. Family is important to Thais.

Your posts are funny. Lies about houses. Lies about pensions. Lies about cost of living. Only hobby is cooking.

I am 78 next month, and I have lived in Los for many years, but I moved back to Australia because of pension requirements. So my question is, will this be my right decision? Here in OZ, I get free medical and cheap medication, which are covered by Medicare. Yes, I have my Thai family to look after me, but what about the medical costs in case I get sick? At my age, it will be impossible to get health insurance. More details about me. My Thai is very poor due to living in the West, but my wife speaks perfect English, and my in-laws do understand English. I am the one who does not like Thai food so I have to eat Farang food, but I like cooking. Have a kitchen built in my place so at the moment I get 1600 AUD per fortnight. Oh yes, I don't need to pay for accommodation.

Yes you lied about 3 things. We can see. It's funny you hate Thailand as well. Oh well. So much for that $240 Perth rental. Back to Thailand to be bored.

So, why do most posters say it is impossible to get decent insurance when over 75?

Because they don't know.

Whoa ... that's one sad A$$ pension, 22k THB a month, that doesn't even qualify for a marriage visa.

Yea, you better hang out in AU.   That's a no brainer, unless you just want to exist here in TH.   Though, that seems like you're just existing in AU on that pittance.

Good Luck.

Thailand is great if you prefer to eat Thai food all the time, if you have no savings / low income and need a cheap lifestyle, if you wish to chase hookers etc.

I think Australia has one of the best lifestyles in the world, so long as you have adequate income / savings - and that makes it a better choice.

I eat both Thai and western food, I have savings, a good pension, and I no longer chase hookers. I have lived permanently with my Thai wife in Thailand since 1993. I have lived and worked in many other countries, including Oz. Thailand is the best by far.

Good that you are content, but I would be wary of an unstable government that continues on devising ways to punish expats, even those like you.

Been here 25 yrs, and govt stable enough, barring a couple coups, that doesn't affect expats, or even the local, if they stay away from protests.   Govt hasn't devised, tried to, or plans to punish expats.

Visa for marriage or retirement & extensions, in country, haven't changed, the whole time I've been here.  Every year things just keep getting better & better.

Don't know where y'all come up with this silliness.

I wouldn't call having the world's record for coups stable.  More than 20 since 1932.  As far as visa requirements go, I am going by comments made on AN over the years.  What happens if your stay is based on marriage and you get divorced or your spouse dies?

I don't deal in 'what ifs', along with most people retire after 50 yrs old.  Just get a visa based on  retirement.   If you don't have 800k or 65k a month, guess you won't be staying in TH.

I got divorced about 1 year after moving to TH, 47 yrs old maybe.  Took in a village orphan, and use that for visa (support of Thai national) till I hit 50.  If not for her, I'd probably would have done the border bounce, split time in KM and or VN, till I decided what I wanted to do, or just popped back to USA.

Just adapt & adjust to what ever comes my way.  Retirement was fairly well planned, so not really an issue, if something changed.   Reading some of these stories, and some folks didn't seem to plan 6 months ahead.
