Hi

I opened a Thai bank account a few years back on my uk passport. I have 2 passports both uk and Irish.

My current DTV visa is on my Irish passport not my uk passport.

I received a message yesterday stating that I will lose all mobile internet banking access on the 8th July as the name does not match the name my phone number is registered in. This is technically incorrect as the only difference is my uk passport shows middle name and my Irish passport does not.

They told me the solution was to go to embassy to get document showing verification of passport. I told them this was not possible as the embassies stopped providing this service a few years ago.

They then could not propose another solution. Then even told me if I changed my passport at AIS shop from uk to Irish it still wouldn’t work as the visa is registered on the Irish passport. Said need to get the visa on the Uk passport. Told them immigration wouldn’t allow that.

They were unable to offer any solution and I’m going to lose bank account access in a few days because of it.

Can anyone suggest any solution to this or will an agent be able to help?

So your bank account was opened on your UK passport including your middle name.  But you state "....if I changed my passport at AIS shop from uk....".....so your AIS account was also opened with your UK passport?  So why don't the names match?

No my AIS passport was opened on my Irish passport.

As on the Uk passport I have a middle name on the Irish passport I do not have a middle name

so bank account is in UK passport with 3 names, as is AIS account, but for some reason you choose to get visa using Irish passport, which only has 2 names.

it seems to me the answer is to get all 3 things in one passport

but why is your bank withdrawing internet usage as bank and Ais are in the same name

''I opened a Thai bank account a few years back on my uk passport'' and '' if I changed my passport at AIS shop from uk to Irish it still wouldn’t work as the visa is registered on the Irish passport''

I fail to see why the bank is interested in where your visa is, as your bank account and AIS are in the same name

am i missing something

Ah, you said "from UK to Irish".  Anyway, irrespective of what the bank said I'd get AIS to change to your UK passport. Not sure why the bank even mentioned your visa as it's not even in the passport they have in their records in any event.

I’ve just gone to a different Bangkok bank branch and got a completely different answer. They told me all I needed to do was to go to AIS shop to change the information with AIS back to uk passport and get the AIS tax invoice from them.

Have done that not with AIS shop so hopefully that resolves the matter but still unsure as the first bank said my visa needed to be switched to the Uk passport also.

will know in a few days if it stays active or not after updating passport with ais

I think I'd take the AIS receipt into a bank and get them to process it while you are there, just to be certain.

Your Bank account is matched with a passport, your AIS (phone) account is matched with a passport, and they need to be the same. It is asking for problems to get a visa with another passport than which is registered with both entities.

The 2nd Bangkok branch I went to was able to update my visa from my Irish passport without letter from embassy despite the 1st branch I went to saying I needed letter.

I also gave the bank the AIS tax reference.

Some of you suggesting I should have applied for the dtv in my uk passport. That’s all good saying in heinsight as I couldn’t have foreseen how this could have been an issue.

Also I had 8 years left on my Irish passport and only 18 months left on my uk passport. That’s why it made more sense for me to apply for the 5 year dtv on my Irish passport

Try and update your passport at AIS and Bangkok Bank, preferably on your longer passport.

Did that before when I got a new passport.

Should be ok after that.
