Hamas Leaders Ordered to Disarm in Doha Amid Ceasefire Push

Hamas officials based in Doha have reportedly been instructed by Qatari mediators to surrender their personal weapons, as part of a renewed international push—led by the United States—to bring an end to the war in Gaza through a ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The development comes as Hamas confirmed on Wednesday that it is reviewing a new truce proposal, following comments by President Trump that Israel has already accepted a 60-day suspension of hostilities. The plan includes a provisional release of hostages and the potential for long-term peace negotiations.

“We are holding discussions to reach an agreement that will ensure the end of aggressions, the withdrawal of forces and granting aid to the people of Gaza,” Hamas stated.

Sources told The Times that top Hamas officials based in Doha, including lead negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and others, were told to hand over their personal firearms. Among them are prominent members of Hamas’s political bureau such as Zaher Jabareen, a founding figure of the group’s military operations in the West Bank, and Muhammad Ismail Darwish, who earlier this year engaged in diplomatic efforts involving Iran and Turkey while commuting between Cairo and Doha for indirect talks with Israel.

President Trump, who is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week, expressed optimism about the situation, saying he hopes for “at least a temporary ceasefire” to be declared in the coming days. Israel has already agreed to Trump's framework for the ceasefire.

On Tuesday, Ron Dermer, an Israeli minister, met with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s envoy to the Middle East. Following the meeting, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar indicated Israel’s readiness to move forward.

“We are serious in our will to reach a hostage deal and a ceasefire. We said yes to US special envoy Witkoff’s proposals. There are some positive signs. I don’t want to say more than that right now. But our goal is to begin proximity talks as soon as possible,” Sa’ar said.

According to Israeli estimates, around 50 hostages—both alive and deceased—are still being held by Hamas. Although the exact number of those who would be freed under the proposed agreement is unclear, past discussions have centered on the release of about ten individuals per phase.

Despite the mounting pressure on Hamas leadership in Qatar, the ultimate decision to approve any ceasefire still lies with Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the group’s commander in Gaza. While Egypt, backed by other Arab nations, has previously proposed alternatives to Hamas rule in the territory, a 2023 peace framework stopped short of explicitly demanding the group disarm.

As efforts intensify in Doha, the disarmament of Hamas’s external political wing is being viewed as both a symbolic and practical gesture to demonstrate their willingness to de-escalate and engage with a broader peace plan. The coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether this fragile momentum can translate into a sustained end to the bloodshed in Gaza.

Fingers crossed on this, looking more promising then many in the past...........

"10 living hostages, remains of 18 others, expected to be returned in 5 separate releases over 60-day truce, without handover ceremonies"

Report says Hamas satisfied with assurances to end Gaza war included in truce proposal

Citing a knowledgeable source, the Saudi news outlet Asharq reports that Hamas is satisfied with the guarantees to end the Gaza war included in the ceasefire proposal it received.

According to the report, the proposal contains assurances from the mediators that both sides will not resume fighting as long as negotiations are ongoing. Additionally, it says US President Donald Trump is expected to announce the agreement once both parties have approved it and will serve as the clear sponsor for its implementation.

Good, they were an absolute disgrace last time, crowds singing and dancing on the coffins of murdered hostages while Hamas filmed the whole evil handovers.

Hamas reportedly won’t hold hostage handover ceremonies during Gaza ceasefire

As part of the hostage release and Gaza ceasefire deal being negotiated, Hamas will not hold public ceremonies while freeing captives, an Israeli defense official and Palestinian source close to the terror group tell the New York Times.

The report notes the proposal being discussed would see the return of 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 captives to Israel, with Hamas releasing them on five separate occasions over the 60-day truce.

Hamas & Hezbollah are fascist, death worshipping cults. We need to see their leaders and their families all eliminated; along with the rest of Gaza.

And the Generation Z anti Semites should all have their western privileges revoked and be forced to watch non stop the films that were taken when the concentration camps were opened up. Then, and only then will they understand the meaning of the term genocide.

And there you are yourself proposing genocide: ' We need to see their leaders and their families all eliminated; along with the rest of Gaza'.

It beggars belief

Not surprised you jump on on an anonymous forum member making claims of genocide and ignore the Hamas official in the OP who really wants it to happen, you know that official don't you? The one that was told surrender their personal weapons when in the talks being held in Qatar. Yes, Khalil Al-Hayya.

Here's a few choice statements of his.

Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya: “Gaza has offered itself as a sacrifice for the Muslim ummah and deserves its full support in return.”

Hamas is openly saying that they are trying to sacrifice Palestinians and the media entirely ignores it.

Oh look, here he is again after the ceasefire and hostage release deal back in Jan

Immediately after the announcement of the ceasefire deal, Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau recorded a statement in which he said Hamas will continue the terrorist ways of their martyred leaders and that Gazan civilians had served as a shield for Hamas

I have no doubt you will now be condemning him and the irony of him being involved in another ceasefire deal right?

Honestly you do beggar belief.

Roadmap for how to proceed:

First, agree to a ceasefire and bring the hostages home as quickly as possible. If it must be done in the framework of a 60-day lull, then negotiate in good faith to actually end the war, unlike what occurred in February.

Second, accept in principle that the Palestinian Authority is the only “brand” available to replace Hamas.

After the success in Iran, here’s how to end the Gaza war strategically

MOD EDIT: Way over fair use policy reduced to forum rules

Intense negotiations are taking place in Qatar in parallel with key talks in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the negotiations have told Sky News that disagreement between Israel and Hamas remains on the status and presence of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) inside Gaza.

The two sides have bridged significant differences on several other issues, including the process of delivering humanitarian aid and Hamas's demand that the US guarantees to ensure Israel doesn't unilaterally resume the war when the ceasefire expires in 60 days.

Only one issue still to be resolved in push for Israel-Hamas ceasefire, Sky News understands

What is Hamas using as a bargaining tool in these negotiations?

Hostages: As of now, sources report that around 50 hostages are still being held by Hamas in Gaza, and intelligence indicates only about 20–27 of them may still be alive.

Quite, the inconvenient truth that the pro Hamas lobby try to leave out. These negotiations are being carried out with Hamas using leverage due to the hostages they still have alive and the bodies of those they murdered. The last hostage release of the Bibas children that Hamas murdered while still in captivity was probably one of the most depraved acts of evil ever filmed and watch by so many people around the world.

Instead of constantly condemning Hamas for using hostages as bargaining chips whether they are alive or dead, the pro Hamas lobby just carry on posting and making making more demands for their release despite the fact that just about every country in the world calls for their immediate and unconditional release. They ignore the war crimes that Hamas are carrying out with them daily and using them and instead claim Israel is putting up barriers.

Thousands of Gazans cheered and celebrated when the bodies of brothers Ariel Bibas and Kfir Bibas were paraded in coffins through Gaza.

A senior Israeli official has issued a less-than-optimistic assessment of the permanency of any ceasefire in Gaza.

Speaking in Washington on condition of anonymity, the senior official said that a 60-day ceasefire "might" be possible within "a week, two weeks - not a day".

But on the chances of the ceasefire lasting beyond 60 days, the official said: "We will begin negotiations on a permanent settlement. ''But we achieve it? It's questionable, but Hamas will not be there."

Gaza permanent ceasefire 'questionable', says senior Israeli official

Very reasonable but Hamas will never go for it and prefer to keep their Hostage trophies

Netanyahu says he's ready for PERMANENT end to war in Gaza

After a 60-day ceasefire deal with Hamas secured

His demands for peace:
— Hamas lays down its weapons
— Gaza demilitarized
— Hamas left with NO governing or military capabilities
