A 66-year-old man sustained injuries after falling into a loading shaft compartment, at the automated car park near Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya. The accident occurred on the morning of 6 July, as the man, an avid fisherman, was attempting to shortcut through the building to reach the seafront.

Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation, along with an ambulance and rescue equipment, rushed to the scene located at loading area number 4, at the car park’s basement level. Mr Worapong Tangthong lay injured on the floor, after falling approximately 5 metres.

Rescuers found Mr Worapong with a visibly broken right leg and a laceration in his head. He was eventually lifted to safety and transported to Pattaya City Hospital for treatment.

Fishing gear, including a rod, was discovered nearby, indicating that Mr Worapong had likely been en route to fish when the incident occurred.

In statements given from his hospital bed, Mr Worapong explained that he had intended to cross the automated car park to access the beachfront more quickly. Unaware of the shaft’s opening, and still experiencing blurred vision following recent cataract surgery, he misstepped and fell into the void.

Fortunately, he was conscious enough after the fall to call for help, allowing rescue workers to locate and assist him promptly.

Authorities are now reviewing safety measures at the car park, including the visibility and security of shaft areas, to prevent future incidents.

Not a wise step

How does this "automated parking" work? What has the guy to do at the parked vehicle?

Did he sit in the car while it was moved around?

Seen a video from such a building in Udon Thani (Bangkok Hospital).

Simply said: you drive into a bay (closed walls).

Leave and lock the car, get out, shutter closes, get some card, walk away.

Car will be moved to the parking lot completely unattended.

Come back, put card in some reader and wait for car to be brought back.

No chance to misstep anywhere.

Is that different in Bali Hai?

Just seen a video about Bali Hai parking. Same procedure.

What shortcut is possible!?

How the heck did he get onto the parking deck?

Absolute death wish.

Blurred vision after operation but driving through Pattaya city.

Watching traffic you might think there are more such drivers.
