Inflation accelerated in June as the Fed weighs the impact of tariffs in rate cut timing

Inflation increased in June and moved further away from the Federal Reserve's target rate as central bank policymakers prepare to meet later this month amid President Donald Trump's calls for interest rate cuts.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday said that the consumer price index (CPI) – a broad measure of how much everyday goods like gasoline, groceries and rent cost – rose 0.3% in June compared with last month, while it was up 2.7% on an annual basis. Those figures were slightly higher than the estimate of economists polled by LSEG.

It's just a one month blip.

Oh Fox, the oracle of credible sources.

It was not SLIGHTLY higher, it was TWELVE PERCENT higher than the previous month.

The latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 2.7% on an annual basis in June, an uptick from May's 2.4% gain that was driven by a reversal in falling gas prices

Yes that is how inflation figures are announced, month by month, just make sure that you have a solid seat when next month's figures are published, because this is just the start, after importers depleted their extensive stock they purchased before the tariffs went into effect.

There’s two parts to inflation.

The inflation on necessities, housing costs, food, energy etc, this hits the poor the hardest.

Inflation discretionary and periodic spends, new/used cars, hotels, restaurants, leisure travel. These are negatively impacted by economic slow down.

The inflation data indicates inflation for necessities is above the mean, while prices for some discretionary spends have fallen (reducing the mean).

I think I follow - economystery has always been a gap in my education but that makes sense.
