Helmet noise

Featured Replies

I have been mulling this.

If the noise enters from the bottom of the helmet that maybe why it doesn't bother me that much. I always wear a balaclava to keep sweat etc away from the helmet liner. I can easily wash the balaclava but taking out the liner is more work. Anyway the "tail" of the balaclava hangs below the helmet on purpose to wick away sweat. This fabric at the bottom of the helmet may mitigate a bit of the wind noise.

Wearing earplugs doesn't bother me. Situational awareness? Even without ear plugs by the time any noise is apparent it is probably too late; what with all that wind noise. That and riding just a tad quicker than the rest of the traffic stops anyone sneaking up behind.

I think we agree, and I have got a few bugs in my face myself with open face helmet, one bird with full face, and a few riding buddies had a open wound after hitting big panzer bugs in high speed as well. It happens rarely, but the more km you ride, the chance is there.

Yeah , had to wash a lot of dead bugs outa my beard and face over the years  , had a few that felt like a bullet too  ....but I have also had fullface visors so clogged with dead insects that washing them off was a major job ,, had to ride with open visor for some visibility ,,,,there is no prefect solution
