US Politics vs British Politics, Surprising Parallels or is one worse than the other

For people like me who are confused about where the main US and UK political parties stand vs each other, I did some research, this is what I found out.

The US Democratic and Republican parties do not map perfectly onto the UK's Labor and Conservative parties, but this is a short comparison based on general political ideologies and policy tendencies:

US Democrats ≈ UK Labour (but not identical)

  • Shared themes:

    • More progressive on social issues (e.g., civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights).

    • Favour government intervention in healthcare, education, and welfare.

    • Stronger support for labour unions and workers’ rights.

    • Concerned with income inequality and environmental regulation.

  • Differences:

    • UK Labour is generally more left-wing than US Democrats overall (especially under leaders like Jeremy Corbyn).

    • The US Democrats include a broader ideological range — from moderate centrists like Joe Biden to progressives like Bernie Sanders (who aligns more with European-style democratic socialism).

    • Labour has a long history as a party founded by trade unions; US Democrats do not.

US Republicans ≈ UK Conservatives (Tories)

  • Shared themes:

    • Generally pro-business and market-oriented.

    • Emphasis on law and order, national defense, and traditional values.

    • Tend to support lower taxes and less regulation.

  • Differences:

    • UK Conservatives, while right-leaning, still support institutions like the National Health Service (NHS), which would be seen as far-left by many US Republicans.

    • British Conservatives are generally less influenced by religious conservatism compared to the GOP.

    • UK Conservatives are more flexible on gun laws, abortion, and some social policies than Republicans.

Summary:

Issue/Ideology US Democrats US Republicans UK Labour UK Conservatives
Economic policy Center-left Right Left Center-right
Social policy Progressive Conservative Progressive Mixed
Healthcare Public-private Private-heavy Public/NHS Support NHS
Taxes Higher on rich Lower overall Higher on rich Lower overall
Climate/Environment Pro-regulation Deregulate Strong action Moderate action

You did omit several other significant differences however: the UK does have a fairly large third party, the Liberal Democrats - although I grant you it is difficult to define where they stand on anything, they are like a windsock, point in the direction of the prevailing wind; the only thing you can say with any certainty is that they are neither liberal nor particularly democratic! The Celtic fringes have their own nationalist parties, which are predominantly left wing and impact principally on the Labour party. And then of course there is Reform UK, right wing, and currently making a very strong showing in the polls - although of course in the heat and pressures of a general election campaign they may crash and burn spectacularly as did their previous iterations.

Personally, I regret the absence of a cynical slightly right of centre party to reflect my own views! I suppose I would plump for Kemi Badenoch, if only because (whisper it quietly) I find that gap in her front teeth disturbingly sexy!

-  Trump uses the his Rep-chickens like a dictator,  Starmer not

-  Trump and his minions are using the loop holes in the US laws and constitution at        their/his best, Keir Starmer not in GB (with the advantage of no written   constituion).

-  Trump has changed the USA  into a aristrocracy, GB not under Labour-Starmer.

the list goes on

Don't know about the UK, but both Democrats and Republicans love insider trading and the stock markets.
