I think most live there as they can not afford to live anywhere else where there are things to do and a bit more going on.   I for example live in Phuket but not in the tourist parts which m

I posted in another thread about things to do in RoiEt earlier in the week:

With regards to the nightlife, I'm not so upto date on things but:
- Rongbeer is a "Da Wan Dang" style club, so is a quite large venue with live music (usually Thai country style music), tables where you can order food / beer to and is open until late.
- Mai Tai Hotel I'm not sure if this is still open or not but it had a club with coyote dancers  (The road parallel to rong beer)
- Boozer and a few other bars closeby are nice bars which people goto (same road as Mai Tai Hotel)

Not such a big nightlife scene compared to many other towns (e.g. Sarakham has 2x universities so has a lot more bars), but you can have a decent night out.

I read "What can one do there?" and somehow I couldn't help but think:

One can go to the bus station and hop on a bus to Surin, Sarakham or Ubol.

If you hope to find a decent expat bar/restaurant you're out of luck because there isn't one and if you want an afternoon cocktail, none of the Thai establishments are open that I know of.  Basically, a one horse town with nothing much to do so I suggest you cross it off your list and rethink the visit.

You didn't walk around much, did you? Or did you have your eyes shut?

That's not what he was looking for. Read his comment.

I did read it! A poster said there was no bar scene there and you then commented that he must have had his eyes closed and didn't walk around much. no? YOU go back and read it.

No, he didn't say that.

He said there wasn't "a decent expat bar/restaurant". There is.

He also mentioned "afternoon cocktail".

Nothing about bar scene or nightlife.

Yea fair enough, you can have that. There's always at least one expat bar/decent restaurant in these Isaan cities.

Why get upset when I give my opinion?
I stayed there for a while and could not  warm to the place. Some bar ladies I have met working in Pattaya, Hua Hin, Nana, and Phuket that came from Roi Et stated it was a boring place and their aim was to catch a wealthy Farang whilst entertaining

If you read my comment I said "it's good".

there's gotta be at least one night club there, i imagine?

and nightclubs are the same everywhere in the world, aren't they? alcohol, DJs, dance floor, neon lights, girls in mini skirts. what else do you want to know?

Sounds like Roi Et is where you live and you've been there too long and are now delusional.  Prove me wrong and name just one expat bar/restaurant you would recommend?  Come on, I'm waiting.

Oh dear, leaving out the rest of the quote, shocking form. Are you a retired journalist?

You stated it's good that the grumpies are avoiding the nice places. You're grumpy if you don't like Roiet? What an odd opinion that is. Clearly, you were upset, bless. Dry your eyes out and try to not take everything to heart.

You're happy living in one of the most boring places on this earth, good for you old bean. Crack on.

I reposted the relevant part. "It's good" to show I'm happy.

No. One is not grumpy if one does not like Roi Et. It's the comments that make one appear grumpy.

I'm not taking anything to heart. Just saying it as I see it.

I don't live in Roi Et.

Wrong on all counts.

I don't live, and have never lived, in Roi Et.

I have frequented bars and restaurants around the lake. I can't recall the names. Lots of expats there having fun over an afternoon beer or two.

Just what I thought.  You're clueless but keep posting about what you don't know as this is probably how you pass your time every day.

For me, this will be my last post on this topic as I do have a life and better things to do with my time.  Over and out.

I posted from my experiences. So, clearly I'm not clueless.

My posting history is less than one post per day. Hardly passing time really but you carry on with your assumptions. They are funny.

RoiEt Expat Restaurants / Bars:
- Pizza 101 (Next to the lake)
- Lakeview (Next to Pizza 101)
- Riverside (I'm not sure exactly as I think they moved to a new location).

I was about to say leave Issan out completely, go straight to Phuket if you want things to do.

Why not save time and not go there at all. 😃
