A South Korean tourist has reported a violent assault and attempted robbery in the early hours of the morning of 1 August, in Pattaya. The victim also alleges that the attackers planted illegal substances in an attempt to falsely incriminate him.

At approximately 04:05, Police Lieutenant Alis Puangsaiwai, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of an assault in the car park of a well-known entertainment venue located on Phettrakul Road in Pattaya, Chonburi Province. Senior officers, including Superintendent Colonel Anek Sarathongyu, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

There, they found a male tourist, reportedly in his 30s and of South Korean nationality, bleeding from a head wound and suffering from facial bruises. He appeared visibly shaken and distressed. According to his initial statement, he had been attacked by a group of individuals who attempted to steal 300,000 baht from him. He further claimed that the assailants had planted approximately 20 disposable vape pods (known locally as “pot-kay”) in his bag to frame him for drug possession.

Security staff at the venue told officers that the victim had earlier been socialising with a group of nearly ten Thai individuals. They were seen standing and chatting outside the club before leaving together in a vehicle. The security guard said he did not witness the attack itself but noted that the man returned sometime later, clearly injured.

Pattaya police remain cautious about the veracity of the victim’s account. Due to the language barrier, a qualified interpreter was brought in to conduct a more thorough interview. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering further evidence to determine what transpired and whether any charges should be laid.

Authorities confirmed that, should wrongdoing be confirmed, the suspects will be pursued and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
