A 61-year-old woman in Lampang Province is recovering in hospital after being brutally attacked by her estranged husband in a fit of jealousy.

Police from Mae Tha Police Station were called to a house in San Don Kaew Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, on the night of 5 August following reports of a violent assault. Emergency responders from a local rescue foundation arrived at the scene and found the injured woman, identified only as Ms. Som, suffering from serious wounds to the head and body, apparently caused by a bladed weapon and a wooden stick.

She was given emergency first aid at the scene before being transported to Mae Tha Hospital, where she is now in stable condition but remains under medical care.

Police investigating the scene discovered a bloodstained wooden stick, which was collected as evidence. The alleged attacker, identified as Mr. Ma, 60, was waiting at the scene armed with a knife and surrendered himself to police without resistance.

During questioning, Mr. Ma confessed to the attack. He admitted he was enraged after seeing his ex-wife speaking with another man at her home. Although the couple had been separated for over a year, they had not formally divorced. Mr. Ma told officers that he acted out of jealousy and anger, drawing a knife when he saw the other man, who quickly fled the house.

Overcome with rage, he struck Ms. Som on the head with the knife and then beat her with the stick before waiting for police to arrive.

Authorities have taken Mr. Ma into custody for further interrogation and have filed charges in connection with the assault. The investigation is ongoing and police say he will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
