You leave your home in the morning and assume all is good in the world. Then this? How horrific. It is likely the lives of those two will never be the same.    Hope the creep gets locked up

You are probably thinking America or England. Both unsafe, but Europe is full of nice safe places.

You apparently don't know much about either place.... or maybe you enjoy only frequenting areas with gang strife or entitled immigrants?

Hope the creep gets locked up for decades. He richly reserves to be abused daily.

As someone who admits to suffering from mental illness, surely you can appreciate that some mentally ill do not know right from wrong and are genuinely insane. This person may very well be one of them. Boxing can result in brain damage. Abusing and torturing people serves no purpose. A person is sent to prison to be detained, not abused.

I swear Thailand is a magnet for the dregs / low lives of society.  I wonder why.

She was protecting her nationals, letting them know that Thailand is dangerous.

How so?

The perpetrator is a Thai citizen.

I don’t even want to hear his excuses.

Send him.to Isaan Alkatraz and throw away the key.

Given the excessive nationalistic venting happening regarding Cambodians, and being seemingly deranged perhaps he mistakenly targeted these 2 foreigners.

I don't think that should be an excuse, doing what he did to anyone is a murder attempt.

UPDATE
Former Boxer Remanded for Setting Malaysian Tourists Alight

A former boxer accused of dousing a Malaysian husband and wife with thinner before setting them on fire in central Bangkok has been remanded in custody, with police opposing bail.

The incident occurred on 7 August outside a well-known shopping mall in the Ratchaprasong area. CCTV and bystander footage showed the suspect, later identified as  Worakorn, pouring thinner over the couple before igniting it. Quick action by passers-by prevented further harm and led to his immediate arrest by officers from Lumpini Police Station.

On the morning of 9 August, investigators escorted Worakorn to Bangkok South Criminal Court for the first phase of detention, covering 9–21 August. Police argued against bail, citing the seriousness of the offence, the severity of the potential penalty and the suspect’s lack of a fixed address, raising concerns he might flee.

Speaking briefly to reporters as he was taken from his cell, Worakorn admitted to the attack, confirming that he had prepared the thinner and a lighter in advance. He claimed the act was driven by stress over being unemployed and insisted he did not know the victims, nor did he realise they were foreign tourists.

When asked if he wished to apologise to the injured couple, he nodded in agreement before being placed into a police vehicle and driven to court. Both victims remain in hospital with serious injuries.

Police have confirmed that the charges now include attempted murder.

Not in any way an excuse.

makes you wonder if Thailand will cover ALL costs for this couple inc any overstay or anything else.........???? skin grafts etc etc

I should hope so, if I am attacked unprovoked and need hospital treatment, I would hate to think I would be expected to pay any hospital bills, or is that what it's actually meant to cover when this 300Bt charge on entry at the airport actually happens.

Yeah, instead her first reaction should have been to exit the BTS station, go down the stairs, then go to the scene.

Thank God for quick thinking samaritans who doused the flames out immediately! 🙏  In the USA most people would just grab their phones instead of a bottle of water or an extinguisher... 🙄

Thailand is safe for tourists?

These seemingly random attacks on tourists/foreigners in Thailand appear to be increasing in frequency, or is it that they are now being reported, whereas they were not before?

This has nothing to do with foreigners. he is simply a lunatic who should be removed from society and locked up in an institution

Next will be "go fund" to pay for the medical expenses ..........

With respect to many normal Thais, is Thailand becoming the hub of "Nutters"?

And if there was how would it affect you or anybody else?

How does one extinguish this kind of fire, burning skin with thinner as accelerant?

This has nothing to do with this case, safe or not safe country. It is simply a madman's action like you can find them anywhere in the world. You cannot prevent it, wrong time wrong place

He set random people on fire. If that doesn't deserve a boot to the head I don't know what does.

A trial. Not making yourself a criminal. And the police not arresting them have no guts either.

Another example of a mentally unstable individual carrying out an horrific attack on innocent people.

By walking around with thinners on his person suggests his intent to carry out some form of attack and was just looking for the right victims to trigger him.
I don’t believe stress was to blame, more likely jealously.
The effects of this is likely to escalate as the coverage widens on the internet, primarily in China and Malaysia and as to how that will affect tourism. TAT now have a major problem on their hands!
