A road crash in Pathum Thani has left one worker dead and two others seriously injured after a pickup truck allegedly cut in front of a six-wheel lorry, causing it to crash into a roadside canal and overturn.

The incident occurred on the Bang Khan–Nong Suea Road, near the Krua Plai Suan restaurant in Khlong 6, Khlong Luang district, on 9 August.

Police investigators from Khlong Ha station, rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and medics from Khlong Luang Hospital arrived to find an overturned white Isuzu six-wheel lorry, registration from Phitsanulok, lying upside down in a partially water-filled canal. The vehicle, fitted with a steel cargo cage, had been carrying road-marking equipment, paint thinner, turpentine and gas cylinders.

Inside the cab, rescuers discovered the body of Mr Saithan Singsom, 29, from Uthai Thani province, pinned under the cab roof and equipment. Two others sustained severe injuries, Ms Panisara Imkrachang, 32, the driver’s partner and Mr Boonlai Chaopa, 62, both sustained serious head wounds and were rushed to hospital.

The driver, Mr Ongart Wongphokhom, 34, told police he and his crew of six from a Phitsanulok-based road-marking company were travelling to a work site in Khlong 9. After stopping to buy brooms, they were pulling back onto the road when a white pickup truck carrying several passengers in the rear overtook them and abruptly cut in front, striking the lorry’s front bumper. The impact caused the himto lose control, sending the truck into the canal where it overturned.

Police found broken fragments of a pickup truck’s indicator light at the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and locate the other driver. The deceased body was later sent to Thammasat University Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Sounds like someone pulled out onto the road before it was clear to do so.
