Police have arrested a 34-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his cousin during a housewarming celebration in Chai Nat province.

The suspect, named only as Nattawut, allegedly fired three shots from a .357 revolver into the victim’s left chest as he was dancing with friends at a banquet table in Moo 2, Chai Nat sub-district, Mueang district. The victim, 41-year-old Manat, was rushed to Chai Nat Ruam Phaet Hospital but later died from his injuries.

According to police, the shooting may have stemmed from a long-standing grudge dating back several years, reportedly over an argument on social media about Buddhist amulets. The victim’s wife, Supap, said the dispute had never turned violent and that relations had seemed normal until the attack. She noted that the suspect had recently borrowed tools from her father and was known for frequently showing off his gun.

Following the incident, the Chai Nat Provincial Court issued a warrant for Nattawut’s arrest. Police later located him hiding in woodland behind his home.

He has been charged with murder and carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause.
