A 28-year-old woman who was just a month away from her wedding has died in a road crash in Thung Khru district, Bangkok, after a car crossed into her lane and struck her motorcycle head-on.

The incident occurred on 14 August along Pracha Uthit 60 Alley. Police from Thung Khru Station and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers arrived to find Ms. Apinya, lying face down on the roadside with severe injuries. Medics administered CPR and called for an Erawan emergency unit, but she succumbed to her wounds shortly afterwards.

Her Yamaha Grand Filano scooter was found around 20 metres from her body, badly damaged and lying on its side. Nearby, a black Honda City, registration from Bangkok, had crashed into a village wall, its front bumper and windscreen shattered.

The driver, 24-year-old Mr. Worawut, was visibly shaken and pale. He told police that he had been driving towards the main road when he dropped an object inside the car. As he bent down to retrieve it, the vehicle veered across the centre line, directly into the path of the victim’s motorcycle, before crashing into the wall.

Dashcam footage confirmed the sequence of events, showing the Honda losing control, hitting the oncoming motorcycle and coming to rest against the wall.

Mr. Somjai, 56, the victim’s father, tearfully revealed that his daughter had been living nearby with her fiancé and was due to marry. “The invitations were already sent, the banquet was booked. We were just waiting for the day,” he said.

Police have sent the body for a full forensic examination and questioned the driver in detail at Thung Khru Police Station. Legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the law.

I'll bet the object was his mobile phone.
