Israel prepares to move Palestinians to southern Gaza

Featured Replies

Israel announced on Saturday that it is preparing to move Palestinians from combat zones to southern Gaza as plans move ahead for a military offensive in some of the territory’s most populated areas.

The Israeli military body in charge of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Cogat, said the supply of tents and other shelter equipment to the territory would resume on Sunday ahead of the mass movement of Palestinians to the south.

The military said it had no comment on when that movement would begin.

How dishonest of you. You edited the last sentence and changed the comma to a full stop. Missing out the rest of the sentence.

Here it is without your deliberate mispresenration and attempt to leave out mention of the terrorists.

"The military said it had no comment on when the mass movement of Palestinians would begin, but Defence Minister Israel Katz said on social media that “we are now in the stage of discussions to finalise the plan to defeat Hamas in Gaza”."

Israel has approved plans to invade and occupy Gaza City - and is preparing to mobilise 60,000 reserve troops for the operation it has dubbed "Gideon's Chariots II."

The move, which will forcibly displace thousands of civillians from Gaza City to the south of the Strip, was approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz today.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "gravely alarmed" by the decision and reiterated an urgent appeal for a permanent ceasefire.

Despite strong Israeli domestic opposition and widespread international condemnation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to approve the expansion of the Israeli military operation in Gaza City.

The Israeli army began on Thursday contacting medical officials and international organizations in northern Gaza Strip to encourage them to evacuate the area before this expanded offensive, which could begin in the coming days with the deployment of 60,000 additional reservists.

The Israeli military announced the recall of an additional 60,000 reservists and the extension of service for 20,000 others as part of the next phase of "Operation Gideon's Chariot," the name of Israel's military operation in Gaza.

Sir Keir Starmer has been challenged to recall Parliament so the “toughest and most severe sanctions available” can be imposed on Israel in the wake of reports of attacks on Gaza City.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the need to “reach immediately a ceasefire in Gaza”, as he warned of the “massive death and destruction that a military operation against Gaza would inevitably cause”.

Scottish First Minister John Swinney meanwhile made clear his view that Israel’s actions in Gaza “amount to genocide”, adding that “the ground invasion of Gaza City only intensifies it”.

Israeli strikes killed at least 36 Palestinians across Gaza on Thursday, according to local hospitals. A renewed offensive could bring even more casualties and displacement to the territory, where the war has already killed tens of thousands and where experts have warned of imminent famine.

Military spokesman Avichay Adraee said on X that Israeli forces had begun warning medical teams in northern Gaza that residents should prepare to move south.

Describing the intense overnight shelling before a medical aid point was forced to close in the city on Tuesday, staff member Shireen Halasa said: “It was a terrifying night. The shelling did not stop for a single moment.

“My heart almost stopped. We were treating around 100 children daily…many suffering from severe malnutrition, but we were forced to close while running for our lives.”
