Police in Surin province are investigating the brutal murder of a 30-year-old company employee whose body was discovered with more than ten stab wounds and dumped in a flooded grass field.

Officers were alerted on 15 August after villagers reported a body floating near Ban Thanong-Khok Palat, Nok Mueang subdistrict, Mueang Surin district. Rescue workers and forensic doctors arrived to find the victim lying face-up in shallow water, about 30 metres from the roadside.

The woman was later identified as Ms Suwanan, 30, an employee at a local firm. Her body bore multiple stab wounds to the neck, mouth and chest, with investigators estimating she had been dead for at least two days.

Police and rescue volunteers searched the area for personal belongings, including the victim’s missing mobile phone, while CCTV footage from nearby locations was reviewed.

By the evening, officers had detained a male colleague in his forties for questioning. He denied any involvement in the killing but remained in custody as investigators worked to gather further evidence.

Pol Lt Col Komsan Konghom, deputy inspector at Mueang Surin Police Station, confirmed that a forensic examination had been conducted and the body transferred to Surin Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police say they are treating the case as murder and are urgently pursuing leads to confirm the identify of the perpetrator.
