Australian Ex-Millionaire Pensioner Stranded in Thailand Pleads for Help

In Udon Thani, 75-year-old Australian pensioner Marcus Own—a former millionaire—has been left with only 1,520 baht after his Thai wife succumbed to drug addiction and he lost support following a debilitating accident that resulted in leg amputation. His retirement savings disappeared after entrusting them to his wife, and local villagers have now stepped in to offer basic assistance while he struggles alone. Authorities plan to escort him to the Australian consulate, with hopes he can be repatriated to reconnect with family in Australia. The story underscores how quickly fortunes can collapse and highlights the need for coordinated humanitarian support.
