Police have arrested a 31-year-old man following a brazen armed robbery, with a gun, at a gold shop in Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan province. The suspect, identified as Mr. Weerawat “Arm”,  stole 49 gold necklaces  weighing a total of 123 baht (initially reported by the shop as 60 baht) and valued at over 6 million baht, before fleeing the scene on a black Honda motorcycle without a licence plate.

The National Police Chief, Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet, ordered rapid action to track down the suspect, citing the robber’s knowledge of the area and use of blind spots to evade CCTV cameras.

Investigators from Samut Prakan Provincial Police tracked the suspect after he abandoned his motorcycle in a fish pond near Wat Khlon Lat and hid in a residence in Ban Rakat sub-district. Using a search warrant issued by Samut Prakan Provincial Court, police raided the house and found Mr. Weerawat inside.

During questioning, he admitted to the robbery and led officers to a portion of the stolen gold, which had been hidden in a speaker cabinet. Authorities collected all evidence and are continuing investigations to identify any accomplices and locate the rest of the stolen gold.

Pol Maj-Gen Wichit Boonchinwutikul, provincial police commander, confirmed that the case is ongoing.
