Three Myanmar nationals were left seriously injured after their motorbike careered off a bend and plunged into a 10-metre-deep canal in Rayong in the early hours of the morning of 20 August.

The crash happened at around 00.30 along the Wang Taphin–Saphan Si Road in Pluak Daeng district. Rescue workers from Pluak Daeng Foundation rushed to the scene where they found the men, aged 28, 28 and 30, lying injured at the bottom of the canal, having struck rocks on impact. All three were in severe pain and covered in blood.

Due to the steep 10-metre embankment, rescuers faced difficulties in retrieving the victims. They were eventually hauled to safety using a rescue stretcher with spine board and ropes, before being given first aid and transported to Pluak Daeng Hospital.

Initial police investigations revealed that the three men had been riding together on a single motorbike. As they reached a bend, the rider lost control, struck a roadside guardrail and overturned. The impact threw all three riders into the canal below.

A local resident, 19-year-old Mr Setthawut who witnessed the crash, said he had seen a group of Myanmar men riding at speed just moments before. “The bike carrying three of them hit the guardrail with a loud bang,” he said. “I turned back and saw them lying in the canal, so I called the authorities.”

Police officers documented the scene for evidence. They said the men would be questioned about the circumstances of the crash once they recover sufficiently and legal proceedings would follow.
