Police have arrested two 15-year-old boys after they attempted to rob a market trader at knifepoint in Wang Noi district, Ayutthaya province. The suspects were identified quickly after authorities reviewed CCTV footage of the incident.

The attempted robbery occurred in the early hours of 19 August when the teenagers approached a lone trader in a market alley, demanding 1,000 baht. The victim refused and drew his own knife to defend himself, forcing the youths to flee the scene.

Acting on prior intelligence about local youths considered at risk of criminal activity, investigators from Wang Noi Police Station were able to identify the suspects. Officers subsequently searched a residence in Lat Sai sub-district and recovered the youths along with the knife and clothing worn during the incident.

One of the teenagers admitted they had planned to rob someone in the market and were intoxicated at the time, acting on impulse without intending serious harm.

Police have charged both teenagers with attempted robbery at night involving the use of a vehicle.

Police Chief Pol Col Somjet Maenbut emphasised that the suspects were swiftly apprehended thanks to prior monitoring of at-risk youths in the area, a strategy implemented under the Regional Police Commander’s directive.
