Did the Indian guy go thru a lawyer, or directly Himself?

It says his 'partner', who worked for a real estate firm, arranged things, I suspect no third party legal representation was involved. It's a minefield out there!

Directly from the article - "The businessman, represented by his partner Wassana (pseudonym), 42, reported the issue to the police in Mueang Pattaya district on the night of August 20. Wassana, a partner in the real estate firm managing the affair..."
I could be wrong, but it sounds like he used a Thai real estate company. One would think that would be a decent enough way of doing it, but... one needs to remember what country one is in and that anything can happen to anyone (particularly foreigners) at anytime, even if you have a lawyer.

Exactly, could tell you many stories of these so called real estate agents, always the same, pretty issan girl living with/married to a foreigner, advertises predominantly on FB. Deposits not returned are the favorite con, others include and are not restricted to, loading the price, renting and not informing the owner and being in cahoots with lawyers setting up phoney companies. It's all done in good faith though 😁

Perhaps the newly remodeled Penthouse.

Soi 13/4 I believe.

More evidence to never rely on earning your income in Thailand to survive in Thailand via some “business “

Make your money for life before arriving on the tarmac.

Your life will be so much more enjoyable.

It's like Spy vs Spy but now it's Scammer vs Scammer.

How do you say that? Obviously one party has been scammed. And you tar the other person as well with your stupid racist comment.

Next, you'll say "lighten up, it's only a joke".

Yeah, I mean was that the deposit,  or the full amount .  If that's the total then it works out just over 27 baht per room per day .

How to get around being scammed in such situations?

Don't pay up until you have control of the property...

Define "control?"   Is it a 100 baht key to the front door?  Is it a piece of paper?  A foreigner never has FULL control of land / property in Thailand.    :cheesy:

Are they any different than just about any other woman in the country???

I thought they were his fingernails.  I read the title, saw the picture and assumed (silly me) that it was a photo of his hands.

That would be scary, indeed! If that were the case, I'd assume that "he" was a pretend "she"....
