Doctors Sentenced After Cosmetic Procedure Leaves Patient in Coma

Two doctors in Bangkok have been jailed after a cosmetic surgery six years ago left a 27‑year‑old woman in a coma. The surgeon, now known as Thunpaphat Poonyaphatworrachote (formerly Chatree Promchot), received a six‑month sentence, while a second clinic owner, Penlada, was sentenced to three months. The victim, Chayapha “Ning” Hirunyanit, remains unconscious as her family accrued more than 10 million baht in medical debt and sought 29 million baht in compensation, which the surgeon failed to provide. The court issued its ruling on August 20, providing some closure after years of hardship for the family.

People forget that doctors are human beings and as such things can go wrong. I don't know the in's and out's of this case but it is a normal consideration that when you go in for surgery, no matter how minor, you may not come out of it alive. Why do you think they have you sign a form before an operation?

After six years they get six months and three months in jail and don't have to pay not a single satang in compensation??????

That is not "some sort of closure"

Just occurred to me to ask......why would they even be sent to jail?.....on what charges? Presumably the courts have found them negligent in someway so compensation must be due.

You can't send medical staff to jail because a patient just happens to die or slip into a coma by 'chance'.

Try to avoid surgery unless it's absolutely necessary.

If you're not the most attractive person in the world, maybe best to accept yourself the way you are than going around playing God. Stop following fashion magazines.

And the so-called imperfections you have are ok. Always risks with surgeries.

Top line....Yes

Broke my arm in six places (never going to any of those places again).

Doctor was adamant he wanted to avoid operating.....as you say to avoid surgery.

I had to have the arm in a soft cast and have it "lifted out" every other day for eight weeks to bend and rotate the forearm.
