Snorkelling Koh Chang

Featured Replies

Heading to Koh Chang next week and introducing my two 9yo boys to diving. We stay Coconut beach / Chai Chet area. Not looking for a dive / boat trip or anywhere too hairy or deep, just somewhere around this area may have a few rocks, features etc off the beach. Any help appreciated 🙂

I’m not professional in diving  but staying in Koh Chang a few years ago,  I went to Koh Kood with friends and had a very nice experience.. Nice trip and islands. check this video, you and your boys  will love the experience 👍

Thanks for your reply, a bit wary of boat trips these days. Been in Thailand 10 years and had more bad experiences, than good...mainly due to what looks like a couple of shirtless kids about 16 piloting very fast speedboats flat out in moderate / heavy seas without consideration for passengers. I've had boats all my life so know what should or should not be done. Seen old people thrown off their seats on the floor. The last trip we actually got off the pick up Songtaew before we got there. Idiot driver doing 80kmh on dirt roads, cut a corner and tree branch come through the back and cut my wife's arm. We spoke to some of the people who did go on the tour, one on crutches and apparently the gangplank collapsed and several people fell a few meters onto the ground.

How far off shore is their dive area? That boat doesn't look like it will be going anywhere too fast lol....I would consider it if the dive area was a short trip and close to shore

You sure you went to Koh Kood from Koh Chang? You would have to go the mainland, and transfer to a different pier than the one to Koh Chang. Also I did not hear Koh Kood mentioned in the video you posted up.

The trip began in BANG BAO PIER Direct to Koh kood. The diving area was very close to the island, very secure trip in boats. Children also safe, my daughter and another 3 children came with us. It was 12 years ago. Perhaps something changed. Try this for better information and a few videos in YouTube about diving in Koh kood.

The water here is like a washing machine at the moment, IMO not a good time for snorkeling, but you may find a calm beach to swim in.

Absolutely.. Nice point👍

Yeah were here now lol. Only snorkelling would be in the pool. Pi$$ing down raining and beach is a mess with beach closed signs and rip warnings. Apart from zero visibillity in the water, the little messy waves / beach doesnt look bad for a swim but I see people drown on these islands every week so will err on the side of caution. They have beach closed signs up but looks more like an a$$ covering exercise as this hotel seems to have very limited staff, possibly many of their staff gone due to the recent border issues

Yes I'll agree with that I've  never known a year like this for rain, and most staff were/are Cambodians, take a look opposite the BKK international clinic, the army have a 'bomb' shelter using tyres, bit overkill IMO. (no pun intended 😀)

I saw some of their excuse for bomb shelters, would accomodate around 8 people lol. But TIT, looks more important than function đŸ˜‚đŸ¤Ŗ
