A crash occurred on the afternoon of 29 August, in Nan province when a teacher’s car lost control and struck two children playing by the roadside, killing one and seriously injuring another.

At approximately 17:45, Police Lieutenant Krissanu Cha Thaitan, Deputy Investigating Officer at Song Khwae Police Station, received reports of a vehicle accident in Ban Tham Wiang Kae, Na Rai Luang Subdistrict, Song Khwae District. Officers and rescue personnel immediately attended the scene.

Investigators found a black Toyota Fortuner SUV in a roadside ditch, having collided with a nearby house. One boy, aged 11, identified only as Mant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another boy, aged 9, identified as Watchara, was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

The driver, 46-year-old Mr. Som, a government school teacher, had been returning from a local school when the incident occurred. Reports indicate he had driven only 500–600 metres before losing control and hitting the children, who had been playing with a puppy in front of their home.

Police photographed and mapped the scene before taking Mr. Som into custody at Song Khwae Police Station. He has been charged with “dangerous driving causing serious injury and death”. Authorities also planned to test him for alcohol consumption as part of the ongoing investigation.

Wow, Look at the road in comparison to just over the white line. Any distraction or miscalculation or oncoming car could cause someone to go into that ditch and once your tire leave the pavement your car is drawn into the ditch deeper. And to have a house right there at the edge with children is so dangerous in itself. RIP to the boy and hope the other one makes it out of the hospital ok.

Don't rush  😡
