A returning wife made a grim discovery, finding her husband and a younger woman dead in their home in an apparent double suicide.

Pol Lt Col Rewut Boonyaem, deputy investigation chief of Chiang Khan Police Station, was notified of the incident at approximately 21:00 on 29 August in the Na Sao sub-district, Loei.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the body of the homeowner, 69-year-old Mr. Bualee, who had hanged himself with a rope from a roof beam in the main living area.

Approximately three metres away, in the kitchen, was the body of 29-year-old Miss Tun, a Laotian national. She was found in a seated position, having hanged herself with a traditional checked cloth scarf, known as a phaa khao ma, from another beam.

Rescue workers subsequently retrieved both bodies. A preliminary medical examination found no evidence of wounds or any signs of a struggle on either body. It is estimated they had been deceased for 2-3 hours.

The victims were discovered by Mr. Bualee’s wife, 67-year-old Mrs. Pheng. In her statement to police, she said she had been aware of the long-standing relationship between her husband and the younger woman.

“I had been to a temple near our home this evening and noticed nothing amiss,” she recounted. “Upon returning, I found my husband hanged from the beam and in the kitchen, I saw Miss Tun hanged in the same manner. I immediately alerted the police.”

Initial investigations indicate that Miss Tun, who had previously struggled with drug addiction, had been working and living with relatives not far from the scene. She was known to have had a long-term association with Mr. Bualee.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, police sources suggest the tragedy may have been driven by emotional distress or disillusionment concerning their romantic affair. The relatives of both deceased have stated they do not wish to pursue any legal complaints.

The bodies have been transferred to Chiang Khan Hospital for formal autopsies as authorities continue their investigation.
