A young mother suffering from severe postnatal stress was dramatically rescued after attempting to take her own life at a hospital in Chonburi on the evening 30 August.

Police from Mueang Chonburi station, along with Tri Khun Tham rescue workers, were called to the scene at around 19.30 after reports that a woman was preparing to jump from the second floor of a hospital canteen building.

The unnamed woman, had recently given birth. Her baby was placed in an incubator due to health complications, leaving the mother distressed that she could not see her newborn. In addition, she told officials she felt neglected after her partner failed to visit her in hospital.

Officers, firefighters and hospital staff found her sitting despondently on the roof canopy. They spent some time, talking with her before successfully persuading her to come down safely. She was then escorted to medical staff for psychological support.

Pol Sgt Chotiwat Buachai, who took part in the intervention, confirmed that the woman had been overwhelmed by stress following childbirth and compounded by relationship problems. “She was desperate to see her child and upset her partner had not visited. This led her to feel hopeless and consider jumping,” he said.

Doctors have since provided psychiatric care and officials reported that her condition is now stable.

I'm surprised we don't see more of these sad stories.

These sad stories will continue until the government supports these woman.

She's probably thinking her partner has abandoned her, so many do in Thailand.

In the west the government would provide social security and welfare payments (thousands of dollars after the birth) for these young mothers, government would garnish the fathers wages, the woman may be on maternity leave, she has income but sadly in Thailand these very POOR young woman (girls) have no money to support herself and her baby.

The father has abandoned her, these woman have no one to turn to for support, sadly they make wrong decisions in life.

Shame on Thailand for not providing for these mothers.

The report didn't say she didn't have any money and it didn't say she had financial difficulties .

What made you claim that she had no money ?

Maybe you should start a new thread in the politics section ?

The woman in this story is feeling neglected ..............and you completely ignore her and give a speech about politics ,

Shes going to feel even more neglected if she reads this thread

Ha, ha, I doubt she will be reading any posts on this thread.

Postnatal depression is common and hopefully they can get her the help she needs, along with allowing her to see her baby as much as possible, to build up her outlook. That the father isn't around happens here all the time, so she needs some support from others that she had started to receive, saying her condition has improved. Tough time for a mother, especially a new one and possibly young, especially without the "father's" support.
