A security guard employed at a well-known restaurant was killed early morning on 31 August, after losing control of his pickup truck, hitting a traffic roundabout and crashing through the external wall of Kanchanaburi City Hall.

Police Lieutenant Chaiyarat Chan-anant, deputy investigator at Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, reported that the incident occurred at 03:05, on Saeng Chuto Road, Pak Phraek Subdistrict. Officers were dispatched alongside patrol units, the on-duty doctor from Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital and rescue personnel from Pitak Kanchan Foundation.

At the scene, authorities found a heavily damaged Isuzu D-Max pickup. The front windshield was shattered and the driver, identified as Mr. Phitak 29, was found dead with severe facial injuries. Rescuers had to use cutting tools to remove his body before medical personnel could conduct an examination. The body was subsequently taken to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital.

Investigators observed tyre marks indicating that the driver had first struck the roundabout curb before losing control and smashing into the city hall’s front wall, destroying three sections and damaging two signposts.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the driver was travelling at high speed when the incident occurred. Authorities are continuing to investigate the precise cause of the crash.
