A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody after stabbing two men, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured, in what he claims was an act of self-defence.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on 31 August along King Kaew Road near Soi King Kaew 22, Racha Thewa Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. Police from Bang Kaew Station, alongside rescue units from Bang Phli Hospital and Ruamkatanyu Foundation, attended the scene following reports of a violent altercation.

Authorities found two victims at the scene. Mr. Santi Nutchongkham, 27, suffered a stab wound to his left shoulder and was rushed to hospital. Mr. Apiwat Jirampaikul, 27, sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest and upper body. Despite emergency resuscitation, he later died in hospital. Two knives were recovered from the scene.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop showed the suspect, later identified as Mr. Thitiwut Thongthin, 30, sitting at a table drinking with friends before briefly approaching the victims’ table. Shortly after, the victims followed him on a motorcycle and a confrontation ensued a short distance from the shop. The attack took place in a blind spot not covered by cameras.

Witnesses reported seeing a physical fight before the suspect drew a knife, stabbing both men and initially fleeing the scene in shock. He later returned voluntarily to surrender to police, claiming he acted in self-defence after being ambushed by the two men. Mr. Thongthin stated that both parties were armed and that he had not sought out a confrontation.

Police have charged him with assault causing death, attempted murder and carrying a knife in public without reasonable cause. He is currently in custody pending further legal proceedings, as the investigation continues.
